I'm a first time Con goer, and I wanted to know if you could just go to the dealer's room, instead of attending the entire convention.

Some cons allow passes on specific events, particularly when areas are separate. However, most cons only sell passes for the whole con (whether for all days or just one of the days), partly due to the difficult logistics of keeping events separate within the same area/building. Though it would be for the dealers benefit to receive as many customers as possible.

If it looks like a convention is going to reach its "fire code" limit, then some conventions will offer a "dealers' room only" pass for those people who only plan to go to the dealers' room.
