    Is Robotech: Remastered worth it?

    Like This Thread!
I was at Best Buy today, making one of my "once in a blue moon" DVD purchases (Lupin III, vol. 6), and I noticed the Robotech: Remastered box sets.

While I am interested, I already own the original Robotech DVD's (Macross Saga only). Plus, my hands are already full with Yu Yu Hakusho, Lupin, the upcoming Zeta Gundam box set, and possibly Saint Seiya.

So, to anyone who has the new, extended version, what are the new scenes like? And is it worth getting if I already have the original box sets?
    I am a robot....I'm a metal being....HEY!!!!

There's really nothing vital that was cut out of the Macross Saga. You get the occasional helping of ass, some additional Zentradi and Micronian gore (and the series was pretty violent to begin with), but it's all very scattered.

Stuff like the Earth getting incinerated in "Force of Arms" ran uncut in the first place, I think. It's nice for the restored video, but if you have the original DVD releases, or AnimEigo's subbed release of Macross, it's not really essential.

Yeah, Robotech Remastered is something to buy if you're really a hardcore fan of the show. The video clean up's nice but it can only clean up so much as is noticeable on the DVDs. The only really extended stuff was some Minmei legs, bikini rear, and full back nudity shots. Then there are some bullet holes in the Zentraedi and
    Spoiler:
An extended Roy Fokker scene where technicians find blood all over his cockpit before he dies.

So we'd be better off with the Macross boxset then?

It's interesting to watch Robotech Remastered, but hardly crucial. The radically altered foley is jarring, and there's hardly any "restored" footage.
    Webzine, isn't it?

Meh, only get Robotech Remastered if you don't already have the series.

Then again, the figure that comes with the second volume kicks arse!
The proof of my existence? Can I get back to you on that?

You are just better off getting Animeigo's Macross versions because they are much better. I used to like Robotech a lot, but then the dub just kept getting worse the more I watched it, especialy when compared to dubs of today.

The Animego volumes are triple the price of a Remastered volume though...

So you can get 3 rematred volumes for the price of one animego one...

Robotech isn't like the Fox Kids Escaflowne or like Kids WB Cardcaptors, granted it's not the original, but it really depends on how much of a purist you are...

It evens out if you just buy the boxset actually...

That's what I did. No regrets.
