Hope that helps!
I am doing a simple statistic research for my basic statistic seminar. I am taking a poll on who collects both American comics, cartoons, anime and manga; who collects only anime and manga, and those who collects only American comics and cartoon. I also like to know the estimated cost to purchase these popular culture items.
example:
I recently stopped getting American comics and cartoons, and I've decided to focus on only anime and manga.
I spend about $120 a month on anime and manga.

Izzy Mandelbaum: How 'bout that, huh? The WORLD'S greatest dad. My son made it for me.
Jerry: That's very nice.
Izzy Mandelbaum: The best in the world! Which means I'm better than just number one.
Jerry: Well, I don't know how official any of these rankings really are.
-I follow a select group of American Comics
-I buy manga regularly
-I've been a full-blooded otaku since '95.
Hope that answers your questions.
I get everything in graphic novels, magna and comics alike, because I don't just use the books for reading so the GN have a more sturdy cover and paper...that and they're cheaper in the end...
I get DVDs regularly, anime makes up the majority of the purchases...
the ammount I spend is in the high hundreds each month...
-I collect some American comics (Transformers). They're each around 3 bucks a pop...
-I subscribed to Shonen Jump, so that's about $2.50 an issue.

Seeing a fig tree by the road, he went up to it but found nothing on it except leaves. Then he said to it, "May you never bear fruit again!" Immediately the tree withered.

The proof of my existence? Can I get back to you on that?
I collect a number of American comics (about 6 or 7 plus variations , such as multiple Transformers titles)
a handful of Manga
and a few Anime (I watch on TV, borrow, or rent usually)

I'm into comics, manga, and American and Japanese animation. I've got eleven animated DVDs (Seven American animation: Superman: The Man of Steel, Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker, The Batman/Superman Movie, Increbile Hulk DVD that Disney released to conicide with the movie, X-Men: The Legend of Wolverine & the first season of the HBO Spawn series and four Anime: Birdy the Mighty: Double Trouble, G Gundam Vol 12, & Excel Saga vol. 2 and 6, and hopefully before the end of next month, Birdy the Mighty: Final Force). As for Manga and Comics, while I have some Manga (G Gundam Vol 1, Hellsing Vol 1, and Kia Asamiya's Batman: Child of Dreams), but my American comics collection outweighs it (Due to A) Most American comics are monthly, B) Cost, and C) Laziness). I also watch anime on Cartoon Network, Action Channel and American animation of CN, Fox Family, and KidsWB.

"You can't live in fear."- Johnny Blaze, Ghost Rider.
I go to my local bookstore and flip through the American comics and Japanese manga.
I read it all in the store so I don't have to pay for anything. The current amount spent is now at $0.
I'll also watch whatever pops on the tube as long as it's not totally unbearable.
A smoothie would really hit the spot right now.
Who buys all of it? Any well balanced individual. Focusing on one or the other is just... limiting.
For example, from the American Comics pile, I've got Superman #204, Batman: Harley and Ivy #1, Ultimate Fantastic Four #5, and two other comics (which escape my mind at the moment) on hold until payday at work. For the Japanese pile, I've got Battle Royale #4 and Confidential Confessions #1 on order. DVDs? I'm planning on buying Batman: The Animated Series 1st Season, along with Abenobashi Vol. 2.
... And Karl better still be picking up Superman/Batman: Public Enemies Hardcover Collection.
On average, I'd say I spend a hundred on the Japanese and American comics and DVDs a month.

AND WE'RE HIRING
Obviously posters here at Toonzone are more likely to collect American comics and cartoons than manga or anime. Go to a more hardcore anime site and that switches around.
But as for me, I don't collect American cartoons or comics, and I only get a few manga titles and the occasional anime title on DVD...so maybe per month, I'll get like 3 or 4 manga titles, and 1 anime DVD. So maybe I'll spend $50 per month (and yes, I use my own money, so I'm pickier... I plan to have a much bigger collection though if I make more money hopefully).
Sorry, but very few American cartoons are worthy of purchasing in my eyes, especially when I can watch them on the tube for free.

I purchase Animation on DVD that I enjoy, no matter what country of origin its from.
I purchase comics that I enjoy in book format, matter what country of origin its from.
1-2 American comics a week if I make it to the comic store...
Graphic novel mangas
doujinshi
Anime when I have the $
I spend more money on American comics than pretty much everything else. I've got a subscription to about 8 titles, and I frequently pick up back issues and hardcovers. I figure I spend about a hundred dollars a month on that.
I buy manga pretty sporadically. Mainly, if something catches my eye and doesn't seem too stereotypically manga (large harems, giant robots, etc. etc.). Right now, I'm collecting the Lupin III and Buddha mangas as they come out. I've been known to dabble in the classics, too, namely Cyborg 009. My manga collection is pretty limited right now- Nausicaa, all 6 volumes of Akira, and the 11 issues of Ghost In The Shell 2. I do get Blade of the Immortal every month.
I don't spend any money on anime, as most everything I absolutely can't live without usually shows up on TV or at a free venue (like a college anime club). The last anime purchase I made was the Mobile Suit Gundam trilogy some six months ago.
I don't spend much on American cartoons, but slightly more than anime. I'm buying the Futurama sets as they hit, and plan on picking up the Batman Animated Series box the moment it comes out.
