Why doesn't Criterion do Anime anymore?

I've been thinking about why shouldn't Disney alow Criterion to take over the Miyazaki disc production campaign? Criterion's sole previous Anime disc (the Akira laserdisc released way, way, back in '94) was of very high quality, and I'd love to see what kind of supplements they can dig up.

It would certainly be a kick seeing an anime with a classy Criterion label and packaging, but Criterion is so damned expensive! The older anime would probably cost a pretty bundle compared to other companies.

Well Criterion, itself, is something of a niche company. IE: they release souped up versions of discs released by their orginal distrubutors. The high price is designed to clue buyers into the quality of what they're going to get.
