What makes Adult Swim for you?

    Like This Thread!
I was just wondering about this, hearing about the ratings Futurama/Family Guy bring in usually...what portion of ASC 'makes' it for you? As in, which is your favorite, which is truly 'Adult Swim' to you.

Basically, you have two choices: Williams Street/Original Content and bought programming.

Williams Street/Original Content: Space Ghost Coast to Coast, Harvey Birdman: Attorney At Law, Sealab 2021, Aqua Teen Hunger Force, The Brak Show, and Home Movies (mostly).

Bought programming: Mission Hill, The Oblongs, Ripping Friends, Futurama, Family Guy, and Baby Blues.

Alright, I hope I got the two groups right, as much as I could.

As for me, Williams Street/Original makes ASC for me. It really wouldn't be Adult Swim without the classic Harvey Birdman or Space Ghost. I still tend to like the schedule as it is now with Futurama/Family Guy as ASC Weekdays and the more WS/Original programming comprising Sundays.

    So, what do you think?
"Leaping Lanny and Randy Savage are brothers, and Randy Savage, your name is Randy Poffo. THAT'S RIGHT, RANDY POFFO. You're ashamed of going around calling yourself Poffo so you probably got the name Savage because you're ashamed of putting yourself on the same level as your brother because he is much better than you are. YOUR BROTHER IS A HUMAN BEING. YOU'RE NOTHING BUT A SCUMBAG. THAT'S WHAT YOU ARE; YOU'RE A DOG. YOUR NAME IS POFFO." - Ronnie Garvin to Randy Savage, ICW Wrestling, 1980.

I would have to say the original programming, if only because the majority of it I really enjoyed watching and only enjoy half of the bought program (a little bit more if you're counting Home Movies, which you seem to not be).

I'll say the original programming because that's what got me hooked to Adult Swim in the first place -- like Harvey Birdman and ATHF. I always enjoyed Futurama and I believe it and FG are vital to the success of Adult Swim, but for me it's the WS shows that create the unique AS atmosphere.

Though right now you would usually see me toting the anime on the block, for this ASC-themed poll, I have to say both. Home Movies rocks. ATHF rocks. Sealab rocks. Futurama rocks. Family Guy rocks. Need I say anymore?

I'll say the original WS programs. Thats what got be hooked. Shows like ATHF and Birdman. The first Sealab 2021 episodes that were funny got me hooked.

If we go strictly by the ratings, it is definitly the bought programs that have allowed AS t thrive, be they anime aquisitions or sydicated stuff. Without those shows, WS wouldn't have the venture capital to create all the original stuff we like so much.

The perfect mix of the funniest, smartest original and bought programming hand in hand with the best in anime, with excellent music and packaging to boot.

While both the original and "second-hand" programming are integral parts of the block, and while I feel that the block would be much, much poorer if either element were removed, I must say that it's the original stuff that makes my day. Especially since I can now include the second season of The Big O in with stuff like new Home Movies as a Cartoon Network original. (-:

The original/WS shows really make it for me since they are still going to get new episodes. Anime's what really does it though.

For me at least, ASC would be absolutely nothing without Willams Street. It wouldn't have started without it to begin with!

    Neither.

AS has become something I won't go out of my way to watch (spoiled by digital recorder, I know). That, and they just don't show what I want to see. But I'm also a stuck up anime purist, so it'll be a long while before they ever show anything I'll really get into.

I do enjoy watching family guy eps in the afternoon, but once they start re running it won't really be worth it anymore. I also like their IY dub, but I don't like waiting for new episodes, so I try not to anticipate anything. I just take it as it comes.

Although I've gotten alot out of re-following Futurama on AS (esp. the first go-'round when I watched just about all of them), for me it's WS all the way.

I started as a SGC2C fan from the beginning (already being a fan of satirically surreal material like LN w/ Conan and MST3K), then, finding out that there'd be more shows like that on a new block called Adult Swim, it was just natural.

From "Family Guy" to "Trigun" to "Aqua Teen Hunger Force" to "Lupin" to "Futurama" to "Kikaider" to "Space Ghost" to (soon) "Big O" - Adult Swim does it all for me. And rightfully so.

Their original programming is OK,but the only shows I really like to watch are Futurama and Inu-Yasha....
