    Adult Swim discussions

    Like This Thread!
I thought that I would just make a statement about Adult Swim discussions. I approve of them because its basically Cartoon Network, and they are network originals. Until another forum opens up specifically about adult swim, feel free to speak about it here.

    I am concerned--

--about their decision to cut the last third of AS for a couple of weeks after the Emergency Number Bombing and show Toonheads and The Bob Clampett Show. At least they could have plugged in some Tenchi or Big O into the slot. Now I hear they plan to nix four episodes. That'll probably bugger the frig out of series continuity.

    Re: I am concerned--

6, 7, and 8 are expendable, but 5 is not. CB is, thankfully for AS, a largely episodic anime, with only a very subtle thread of continuity running through it.

    Don't worry

Cowboay Bebop will return on October. If they do skip episodes, I'm sure we'll see them later in reruns. If not, then I'll have to assume that Cartoon Network doesn't want to rock the boat with animation content at this time. Either way, things will cool down and hopefully we'll see Bebop and all the other shows on TV normally again.

The only series I like in Adult Swim is THE BRAK SHOW, but this is different from the other Brak Show that had only two episodes, and aired sometime in late 1999/early 2000. The format was different and it had a lot of music video spoofs special celebrity cameos like from Freddie Prinze Jr. The series airing on Adult Swim is a take-off on family shows like Leave it to Beaver, with Zorak and Brak as brothers, a mother who looks just like Brak, and a father who's very short and talks with an accent (Spanish?). I like both series the same, but I wonder why there were only two episodes of the original BRAK SHOW series? They really had a good thing going with that series (at least in my opinion).

My favorite shows so far on AS are (in order) the Brak Show, Harvey Birdman, Space Ghost Coast to Coast, and Sealab. I can live the rest of my life without Home Movies and Hunger Force.

    Space Ghost

As a newbie I just stumbled onto this topic. I think SGC2C is hilarious. Especially the subtle way the "camera" cuts back and forth when noone is talking, for "reaction shots" on the faces of non moving animated characters. I Love It LOL
I just had to say that.

I don't know how long you've been watching Space Ghost, but that show is the undesputed master of the comedic drawn-out pause. Gotta love it.

About SGC2C, I could be wrong, but I believe they use the process of retroscripting, created by the makers of Dr. Katz. Whereby, the interviewee(i.e. the guest of the week) is basically asked various questions and then the SGC2C goes over the interview, and creates the show around the best parts of it.
Yup. It's a signature. Go away if you're expecting something interesting here.

I've heard that they at least sometimes have a rough idea of a script before interviewing. But a lot of it must be retroscripted.

Besides the fact that Space Ghost Coast 2 Coast was created before Dr. Katz became a TV series.

    Retroscripting

Well, I'm guessing the Robin Leach interview was retroscripted. That sure sounded like Leach ad libbed the alien thing and they decided to run with it.

On the other hand, the Greta van Susteren (sp?) interview sure sounds like it was written first, and they fed her questions to fit into the story line they'd invented.

I have also heard that they retroscript it. I don't know if they change the formula from time to time, but the retroscripting certainly adds to the show's uniqueness.

Yeah... I've read where the creators have said that they'll interview the guests, then take everything out of context to make it funny. They've annoyed a few people that way... Adam West gave them the evil eye when they ran into him at a comic con, and Cameron Diaz was ticked that the only thing of hers they used was her annoying laugh.

Wonder what Bjork thinks about being made into SG's wife? THAT sounded retroscripted...

I like it when the guests get p.o.ed at them on camera. Rich Hall asking "Are there prizes for these questions?" Jeff Foxworthy saying "You guys obviously have done no research, cuz these are just about the STUPIDEST questions I've ever been asked." Jerry Springer complaining "This is an ambush show!"

Home Movies is great! Sure, the animation kinda sucks, but listen to the voice work. I think it's pretty good.

The Brak Show isn't bad either. Hasn't been on for a couple weeks, but it's coming back this week.

Of course Space Ghost is the best. The new episodes are really funny.

All the shows are great! They should expand it to more nights so they can show Mission Hill, Oblongs, and Baby Blues. The only problem with the current one is they have too many repeats of the Brak Show. They should show a new Brak at 10:30 and 15-minute Cartoon Planet at 10:45. My opinion though.

My fav. shows in order are: Space Ghost, Sealab 2021, Brak, and Home Movies (tie). I like Harvey Birdman a lot but only saw it once or twice. The Johnny Quest episode was classic! Why isn't Birdman on more often?

That whole Jeff Foxworthy segment was great! I loved it when they started talking about necks actually being red or not. I could see Zorak possibly being a redneck, but Space Ghost would be completely lost. I don't even think he has any primer on the Phantom Cruiser!
