    Favorite Dub: Who's your Lupin?

    Like This Thread!
FUNimation, Pioneer, and MANGA all have dubbed Lupin over here in America. Manga having dubbed(and dubbed well) the uber-popular, and highly suggestable to watch 'Castle of Cagliostro.' FUNi is currently dubbing the various Lupin TV-movies and specials, while Pioneer is doing the TV series.

    Which is your favorite Dub?

My tremendous intuitive sense of the female creature informs me that you are troubled...

I'm 99.9% sure they did not release a dubbed version.

IIRC, they don't do dubs at all.

Out of those, Pioneer is the best, but I'd probably like the Japanese version more if I saw it.

Animeigo did release a lupin dub, but he was called Rupan for some reason. The movie was The Fuma Conspiracy.

Goemon is about to marry into another clan when a bunch of evil ninjas bust in to try to steal an ancient vase said to be the key to a great treasure. The movie take place sometime after Lupin is apparently killed in a boat explosion because Zenigata has retired from the force believeing that without Lupin, theres no more challenge in policework anymore and has become a monk, hoping that if he prays hard enough, Lupin will be reincarnated as law abiding, yea right.

Like I said throughout the whole movie Lupin is called Rupan wich is a bit distracting but otherwise its a lot of fun to watch. Very well animated especially the two major car chase sequences one of witch ends up destroying some public baths.

    Don't forget Streamline.

Animeigo's Lupin dub had the WORST Lupin VA ever. It is absolutely jarring to see.

I suppose my favorite is the Manga dub. Pioneer's is decent enough, which is fortunate since a bad dub for the tv series would have been tragic. FUNi's dub is serviceable, but hardly something to write home about (although it gets better in Harimao's Treasure). Streamline's cast was surprisingly good. I'd say Streamline has my favorite Lupin and Zenigata, Manga my favorite Jigen, and Pioneer my favorite Fujiko. Goemon's VA never stands out to me in any incarnation.

The Streamline dub was an atrocity. Hearing those lines come out of Lupin's mouth was like eating Nutrasweet.

Pioneer has to be it, and that their voice acting is very good and all, not sure if the others will agree on that.

Animeigo has a tape of the dubbed fuma conspiricy, so they obviously have done dubs of it.
The Japanese have what could be called an "interesting" grammatical structure, but could also be called "confusing", "random", "bogus" or "evil".

I dunno if this has been brought up, but is the guy who voices Lupin the same guy who voiced Rick Hunter in Robotech?

Tony Oliver indeed voices Rick Hunter in Robotech's Macross Saga, Rand in Robotech's New Generation saga, and Lupin the Third in Lupin the Third TV.

My favorite voices have to be a mix. I really have grown to like this new Lupin, but I am still VERY fond of Bob Bergen as the man himself (Streamline Cagliostro, Mamo, TV2 #145, #155). Bob Bergen has also played Luke Skywalker in LucasArts video games, as well as the modern roles of Porky Pig.
My favorite Jigen is kind of a toughy...I grew fond of the Streamline Jigen, just cause I heard him so much. I like most Jigen voices (Manga's and AnimEigo's were a bit fakey though), but the recent English Jigens' (Manga's and Pioneer's) harsh cussing habits bother me.
I think Goemon is the most uninteresting cast member of the Lupin series. He cuts stuff, and....? But as far as voices go, Streamline's original Goemon, Steve Kramer, sounded funky. The one the used for Mystery of Mamo however, was probably the best Goemon ever. The recent Goemon for Pioneer's dub sounds a lot like Steve Kramer at times.
Fujiko's VA was probably best in Castle of Cagliostro (Manga). The new one does sound a bit too "vanilla" as someone on here said.
The best Zenigata was easily Streamline's. He didn't sound old or gruff (like the original Japanese voice, Goro Naya) by any means, but he was a good actor!

I think my rant was excessive. :P

No offense to Bob at all, but why in the world can't Mark Hamill voice Luke Skywalker himself? He does all kinds of voice work these days.

havn't heard all the dubs (watch Gemini Subbed, cause I wanted the "proper" into to Lupin)

so I'd ahve ot go with the Pioneer dubs, I think they catc the characters quite well, especially Lupin and Zenigata. Goemon's dialogue is off putting at times, but he's not your ypical samurai anyway

I think all of Pioneer's besides Goemon are good, Goemon just doesn't sound...right.

Tony Oliver was the voice of Rick Hunter and Rick Hunter only in Robotech. Frank Catalano was the voice of Rand, as well as several other characters.

Tony Oliver is back to doing voice work after hiatus, and can also heard as Keiichi in the Oh My Goddess Movie released by Pioneer, as well as the voice of Hibiki Tokai in Vandread, also by Pioneer. He's doing several other series, but for the life of me I can't recall what they are at the moment.
