    Is that a fact?

Gee, I'm not sure how I feel about the retitling. It sure would make me feel kind of dirty going to see something with "the movie" in its title.

Anyway, didn't Columbia Tri-Star also run Metropolis in theatres with subs?

    WHY?!

    Jesus,

Why'd ya have to give such bad news Matt? I mean I love the sub an all, I watched it 100 times though. I always love seeing what little lines they change in the dub. For example, in "Jupiter Jazz" in the sup Spike says something like:

"This is so repulsive it's disgusting."

    in the dub he says

"YOU THINK I'M VICIOUS?! YOU DONT KNOW WHAT VICIOUS IS!!"

I'm gonna be stuck pondering what lines they might have turned around for the American audiences. Fata Morgana, what's your opinion on this?

I hope Columbia/Tri-Star is putting a dub on the DVD.

Otherwise I'll sue them for false advertisement. Didn't they promise to retain the original English cast? What the hell happened to that?!

And "CB: The Movie" is debuting August 11th at the Egyptian Theater in Hollywood. Probably to qualify for Oscar consideration.

Horrible. Just horrible. One of the most important things about Bebop was the music and the musical references. If Bandai could get Sympathy for the Devil and Bohemian Rhapsody among others, why can't Sony get Knockin' on Heaven's Door? It's disgusting.

The subtitled annoys me a bit, but not as much as renaming it. The dub was, dare I say it, perfect, the Japanese version was good, but it sounded plain at times. They'd better release a dubbed version, but I have a feeling they will. This isn't good news at all, but at least we get a DVD release.

And Matt, I don't remember them promising to keep the dub cast. I remember them saying that they never said they wouldn't keep the dub cast, and the dub cast was being sought out as possible voices for the movie. I don't remember any promises or confirmation.

Wow, changing the title again, like they did with Candidate For Goddess. Can't say I'm that surprised, although I'd hope that they'd atleast have the dignity to not tamper with the name of such a high profile release.

It will be a true shame if they don't release a dub. C'mon, is it that hard? Bebop's claimed by many (myself included) as the best anime english dub ever. And even so, there's only 5 characters they'd have to retain for the movie.

The only way I don't see them using the original cast is if the whole union/alias thing screws it over, which is certainly a big possibility. Columbia/Tri Star will do a unionized dub like they did for Metropolis, and since certain Bebop actors would reveal their union names by doing it, they'd be forced to not do the dub. Then again, certain actors I won't name were dumb enough to put their union names in the Bebop credits, so maybe it won't be such a big problem after all... I've never considered the issue as big a deal as many, although I suppose its possible that it could scare certain people from participating.

Either way, no dub, or one with different actors will certainly be a travesty and cost this movie a bunch of sales.

You guys gotta remember it takes a lot longer to dub a film than to sub it.Escaflowne the Movie,Metropolis, and eventually Spirited Away all went to theatres 2 months or so with subs only.

In December it'll be time to ***** and again AiC keeps saying they have plans for a big release, for all we know this is just a feeler screening.

At least they aren't pulling a DBZ and simply getting a new dub cast completely. So look on the bright side. It could be worse.

If all Sony was planning was to sub it, they should've just given us the DVD ahead of time.

Hopefully the fact that the DVD isn't out until the Fall gives hope that they're getting the voice cast together to do the film.

Well, let's take this one bit at a time:

No dub, subs: I've never heard the original japanese voices, but I don't know if it'll be the same without David Lucas as Spike. To me, the voice just made the character. Still, I do like subs - sometimes dub lines get chopped up and sense no make. Plus, subtitles makes it more "artsy" and a better candidate for an Animated Oscar.

Name Change: In the history of film, any movie that has "The Movie" stuck on to the title has been a bust. The single exception was Mystery Science Theater: The Movie (although even it was just a shadow of the TV show, due to studio-ordered cuts). I feel that "Cowboy Bebop: The Movie" sounds really cheap. Just not cool.

They should release it as Cowboy Bebop, Episode Twenty Two and a Half: The Movie - Knockin' on Heaven's Door (Deluxe Subtitled Edition). Who wouldn't want to see that?

LOL! Classic. I think the "Episode 22 and a half" sells it...I think we could take it out even farther, if we wanted to. Throw in some "with THX Digitally re-remastered sound, never-before-seen footage*". (*If you haven't seen the movie already)

Well, according to Anime News Network (where I'm guessing that Matt is getting his info) that's only one special screening. The full release later on might have the English dub. I'm holding out hope that it will, I'd be pissed if it didn't... BUT I would rather just watch it subbed than see a different dub cast thrown together.

And what's up with that title? Listen, if they can't get Knocking on Heaven's Door, that's fine. I understand. I'm sure they tried. But does it have to be Cowboy Bebop: The Movie? All the poetry is gone... surely they could have come up with something else. Like, Martian Symphony (ok, so that one sucks) or something... ah well. I'll always think of it as Knocking on Heaven's Door anyway.

Coming up with a whole new title screws with it even more, I think.

It isn't that big a deal. You know what it's really called, I know what it's really called... as long as they don't mess up how great the movie's title card looks when it appears onscreen in the opening credits, it should be okay for the fans.
