So, if Luffy's so far ahead of everyone else, how did he get past the giants?

I think it was because he jumped over the gates before they were altered of the situation.

    The recap was very annoying.

But you have to admit: that cliffhanger was very cool. You don't mess with an angry Luffy.

Which arc came first in Japan, this arc or the Soul Society arc in Bleach. This does have the same feel of the SS arc, you have giant gatekeepers as the first line of defense, and the person that they are trying to rescue, Robin and Rukia respectfully doesn't want to rescued and resigned to their terrible fate.

The SS arc was written about 2-3 years before Enies Lobby. Of course, it'd be kind of ridiculous to assume that Oda was deliberately copying Kubo. I'm sure it's just a coincidence and overlapping of common tropes.

I wasn't saying or implying that anyone was ripping anyone off. Just noted a simularity, I am sure there are many more like them.

Then why did you ask which one came first?

Agreeing with zoombie which both the epic Enies Lobby and Soul Society/Rescue Rukia arcs are very similar, both Robin/Rukia not wanting to be saved, both Rob Lucci/Byakuya are so similar being heartless stoic corrupt slimeball cops, and have awful despicable villains like Spandam, Spandine, Sosuke Aizen, Genryusai, Byakuya, Mayuri, and Soi Fon that fans love to hate, but I love Sosuke Aizen, Byakuya, Mayuri, and Soi Fon though.

One other thing the Franky Family they remind me a bit of Ganjou and his gang. I am not saying the two arcs are exactly the same, just similar elements reminding of each other, which is not a bad thing, I enjoyed both arcs.
