This week on Samurai 7...
With Ukyo as the new emperor, his plan begins to reveal itself.

Kambei was scheduled to be executed in five days, after Ukyo requested a delay. Meanwhile, Ukyo was confirmed to be the emperor's 49th clone and was put through a three day test, which all the previous clones failed to pass. Ukyo eventually passed the test and became the next successor. Later, Sanae asked Amanushi about the child she was carrying. Amanushi replied that he will also be a successor. After hearing this conversation, Ukyo told Kambei that he was the one who murdered the imperial envoy. After, Ukyo met Amanushi privately, and killed him by pulling his oxygen plug. He then staged an act by faking Amanushi's voice, making it seem like Amanushi was abdicating his power to Ukyo. Afterwards, Ukyo became the new emperor and was accepted by everyone, who believed that Amanushi wanted this. Elsewhere, Katsushiro, Kikuchiyo, Kirara, and Komachi set out to save Kambei from the capital.

Ah, Katsu and Kiku! After last week's episode, I almost forgot this series was even about them.

Uh, guess we'll just take your word on the billboard, Katsua and Kiku, seeing as how we don't speak a lick of Japanese.

I'm surprised she hasn't miscarried by now.

So now they kowtow to the pretty girls. Just like high school.

Okay, I can't read that, but I think it says Kambei is about to be executed.

So much for filial piety.

Don't gloat over a dead man while he's still alive, dude.

Yeah, don't cry kid, he's not going to die. There are still six episodes left and his character didn't die in the original movie, so the odds are in his favor.

What is this? The Fort Knox of Samurai 7?

They're going to want their outfits back when you're done, Kiku, and I don't think one of them will like that one of them is stretched out.

They don't even EAT IT? If Heihachi were here, he'd be appalled.

In other words, the rice is just loose change, and the peasant villages are the couch cushions.

Woman: Is that Ukyo? he's the new emperor?
Man: That's it, it's the end of the world.

Am I the only one disturbed that they are going to let a litle girl watch Kambei get his head chopped off, assuming that is part of his plan. I think it might be too grapic for her, heck it is too graphic for me.

I thought that this was a pretty good episode. Ukyo is kind of creepy with how in control he acts and how he manipulates others with his new position, but that was obviously his plan from the start. I really liked Kiku's reactions to how they really use the rice since being a former farmer himself, he understands how wasteful that is after all of the work the farmers put into it. I did get a pretty good laugh from that extra saying it was the end of the world after Ukyo came out as the new emperor. It's too bad that they left the episode on such a cliffhanger since I wanted to see how Kambei was going to get out of this execution. Overall, it was a pretty engaging episode and I hope that next week's episode will be interesting to watch as well.

Ukyo loves to ham things up. I guess its part of his character, but oh, how I want to slap him sometimes.

Ukyo is one of those antagonistic characters who seems to always keep the viewer on his/her toes about whether his actions are really "good" or "evil". Really good episode, though I was completely disappointed of not seeing the result of the execution.
