C&C - The Boondocks - "Or Die Trying" [10/8] SEASON TWO PREMIERE!

    Like This Thread!
The Boondocks Second season has finally begun. It's airing right now on Adult Swim FIX but with Sunday Night AS already overcrowded you'll have to catch it Monday at 11:30PM for it's TV Premiere. Till then for those of you who saw "without paying" enjoy this talkback.

SYNOPSIS: "Grandad forces the kids to sneak into the long awaited sequal to Soul Plane 2. What follows is bootlegging, nunchucks, and twenty dollar popcorn: everything a day at the movies should be"

    REVIEW:
    Spoiler:
When MacGruder talked about upping the comedy and overall enjoyment level of the show, I can see what he means. Compared to the first season premiere, I say we're talking about a five to six time jump in quality. Then again this didn't have the burden of introducing new characters or plot points: Just a fun day at the movies done Freeman style. Though previews already ruined some good scenes like the Soul Plane 2 trailer (good guest VA work by Monique and Snoop Dog, which I guess explains why Snoop was able to work on a robot chicken episode as well) as well as Grandad buying popcorn (one of our threathres around here you also have to butter your own popcorn, which can be good and yet annoying) but there were still plenty of funny scenes: Grandad convincing Jasmine to go, Huey remarking that Soul Plane 2 will probably be as funny as a lynching, sneaking food in (which I use to do too since it is something you do with family: avoid having to pay steep concession prices) Ruckus throwing out the black guy who played (and normally I don't find him really funny), Huey talking to the movie employee about starting a union, the commerical featuring a woman being beat and gunned down for seeing a movie without paying, Grandad's rant on the decline of theathres (which is pretty true), Huey deciding to help Jasmine/stop the crappy movie, 50 cent's preformence as the officer, Riley and Grandad leaving Jasmine, Huey leaving his nunchucks in the bathroom and taking on the security with just a broom (Didn't knock Ruckus had any moves though being able to take down Huey assuemdley. Guess best not to underestimate this guy), the movie theathre shutting down due to the crew unionzing and the ending with Huey and Ruckus about to fight again. Real cinemanic end to a cinematically good episode.

    So Enjoy This One Everyone!
Instead of just using this new signature to celebrate a thousand more post, let me list of all the great things you can expect of me on this board for 2012:

...... The same talkbacks you saw me do last year but with new episodes.

.... What are you doing still reading this? Move to the next post already! .

I have to watch this on tv, I can't do the computer screen thing. It has to be viewed on the plasma.

I just want to know one thing. Has Sony gave CN the widescreen version this time?

If the rest of the season is as good as this episode, I'm looking forward to more episodes.

    Love the new intro.

"Stealing movies is wrong. It's just like robbing the elderly...or murder."

    McGruder vs. the movie industry.

    Poor Jazmine.

Welcome back, Boondocks. Keep up the good work.

It's been what seems like years since we've had a new Boondocks episode (I believe it's been since March 2006, though.), and the season two premiere made me realize just how much I've missed it. It was well worth the wait. If the rest of the season is as good as the premiere, I'll consider the hiatus time well spent preparing this new season. I'm already looking forward to next Friday's new web-premiere. I can't wait to see what the ratings are when this episode airs on Monday.

There are so many great things about this episode, I wouldn't even know how to explain it all.

This is good. Damn good. Like...early Family Guy Good.

The best show on Adult Swim is back.

Couple good parts, but I didn't like it nearly as much as I hoped. Maybe it was just letdown from the long wait and epic first-season finale, but I didn't like the sitcom-y feel.

The scary thing is that's probably a lot like what Soul Plane 2 would really be like.

Pretty good season opener. The Soul Plane 2 opening alone makes it worth viewing. Loved how Huey's preaching of a union backfired on him.

Indeed. Poor innocent Jazmine and her types of stereos. That line for some reason was rather cute.

Good way for the Boondocks to return. Can't wait for the next episode.

I loved this episode. It made me want to download the original Soul Plane... which, of course, is a horrible idea.

Blech. Once again, Boondocks tries to make a point in the most half-assed way possible.

I mean, REALLY, this has all the subtlety of a hammer, as usual, and is so exaggerated that you might as well be watching a Looney Tune. Sheesh. More poor McGruder work in action. You used to be so cool, man.

The Looney Tunes are awesome. So are you saying The Boondocks is awesome?

I've got to comment on this very funny episode..or die trying(sorry, couldn't resist).

    Geesh,
and I thought my parents were cheap, Granddad takes the cake(into the theater). This was more exciting and less heavy on social commentary than the first season premiere IMO. I was glad to see Huey act nice towards Jasmine just like in the first season finale. I'm pretty sure the poor girl will never go to the movies with Grandpa ever again(can't say I blame her).

If the rest of the season is as good or better than this episode then I'll have to make sure to watch every new episode.

No, he's saying it's so overtop you're better off watching Looney Tunes. I mean, I've been to the movies 7 times this year and I've never seen anti-movie piracy ad that was shown(the guy killing the old lady) that was so brutal. But the stuntman was accurate. Though the food there is overpriced and the commercials are annoying, but that's just a general agreement.

This episode was once again a good story sacrificed for personal social commentary. If you want to watch a movie trip satire, you're better off with Strong Bad e-Mail "the movies".

I did like that guy telling "**** you" to Huey and John Witherspoon voiced himself in the beginning but I think he's just a funny guy, which is why Granddad is the only funny character on the show IMHO.

    Grade: C-

Sunday is hardly using all their space wisely, anyway. I mean, it's the only night with double Futurama. Also, Oblongs and the Tim and Eric half hour aren't exactly necessary.
