    Cowboy Bebop movie licensed!

    Like This Thread!
    The news is now (almost) official; they haven't announced it, per se, but it's now without doubt that Columbia/Tristar has licensed the Cowboy Bebop movie "Knockin' on Heaven's Door." This news comes from Anime News Service, who got a press release from Columbia/Tristar stating that a trailer for "Knockin' on Heaven's Door" would be on their "Metropolis" DVD.

    Is this good news or bad news? To me, the answer to that question will come when the English voice cast is announced. ^_^;

    Sorry, I figured "Anime News Service" would be enough for you to figure the link. ^_^; Here's the website:

    http://www.animenewsservice.com

    and here's the press release they got from Columbia/Tristar:

    http://www.animenewsservice.com/archives/metrodvd.htm

    Moreover, last month there was a statement by Columbia/Tristar that they were "aggressively pursing" the rights to the CB movie. Since they were trying to get them, it isn't all that surprising that they did.

    Good enough?

    Well, they are doing a decent job with "Metropolis," but I'm a tad concerned about the dub--will they get the original Animaze cast back to reprise their roles or will they be "big name" stars? I guess for Electra and Vincent they could hire "big name" stars, but the cast itself should be faithful to the TV series,

    Huh? I guess this means that it'll be in theatres. They'd better give it a proper release and the right voices. Otherwise, there'll be plenty of R2 imports.

    This is great news...

    ...if indeed true. Given the large numbers of people turned on to Bebop thanks to Adult Swim, I think the movie should do quite well (for an anime released in the US). As far as the voices, my preference would be the original Japanese with English subtitles. Not that I can speak a lick of Japanese, but the Japanese cast has cooler voices, IMHO. Yeah, I know they never do that, so my vote goes to the original English language cast--anyone else wouldn't sound right...

    Cowboy Bebop Movie

    I just thought everyone here might be interested to know that, according to animenewsnetwork.com, Colombia TriStar has the rights to Cowboy Bebop: Knocking on Heavens Door. This is good because it means a possible (probable) theatrical release. It also probably means a classy, good-looking, worth-purchasing Special Edition DVD release, which Bebop deserves. It's bad because it lessens the likelihood that the English dub cast from the series will be used. Which is a shame, really, because the English dub cast did a GREAT job. Best dub I've ever seen...

    1/2 Good News cause I'll be able to go see it in theatres.
    1/2 Bad News cause legally I can't sell it on my site (see below)
    1/2 Maybe Good or Bad News because the same thing happened with the Escaflowne Movie (it was released today or sumtime this week or next week), except instead of getting a coming-to-your-town release, it's only in select IMAX theatres.

    Ha! Cool! Now if only he had posted a link to my website, I would truly be in heaven. But his remark about "keeping him honest" reminds me that there's an edit that he forgot to list that I ought to tell him about. ^_^;

    Bebop on the big screen? Way past uncool if it gets messed up. (yes i quote from sonic) It would be awesome to see, but I dunno for sure who would oversee it. Therefore I can't make judgements. If they're anything like Funimation, I'd hide in fear of a goood anime getting slaughtered.

    That's good news, but I'll be mad if they don't use the original English cast.

    a petition

    There's an online petition for the original dub cast, if anyone wants to sign it:

    http://www.petitiononline.com/cbmp/petition.html

    It may not do any good, but I did sign it.
