Cowboy Bebop - Edit Grades

Boredom strikes. So for Adult Swim, I decided to um.....grade Bebop's edit jobs. Edits for adults are taken more seriously than for kids. Seems with kids you can never be too safe, but with adults its the opposite.

Anyway......

Ep 1: Asteroid Blues - B+
- Felt that the blood didn't need to be blacked over because it was flying throughout the episode
- Felt that dubbing out God was unnecessary.

Ep 2: Stray Dog Strut - A+
- Minimal edits. Only **** edits. This could've run on Toonami with the same edits.

Ep 3: Honky Tonk Women - A+
- Same thing. No footage edits. Only one **** edit.

Ep 4: Gateway Shuffle - A
- The language wouldn't fly of course, but I felt the skin mag didn't need a swimsuit because it was practically a sillouette. (sp?)

Ep 5: Ballad of Fallen Angels - A-
- Most fans expected this to be edited more. The drawback is the bloody hallway. The single shots of Spike and Vicious were reasonable.
- More skin mags with swimsuits.

Ep 6: Sympathy For the Devil - B
- Mostly minimal edits. The negatives were some bulletholes and Spike's lower waist gradient.
- I'm pleased they changed **** to its milder counterpart: crap.

Ep 7: Heavy Metal Queen - A+
- Once again. Nothing but **** edits. I thought some more stuff would be edited actually.

Ep 8: Waltz For Venus - C
- Yes there was only one edit. But it was both obvious and a poor choice of one.

Ep 9: Jamming With Edward - A+
- unedited episode

Ep 10: Ganymede Elegy - A+
- unedited episode

Ep 11: Toys in the Attic - A+
- one **** edit, end of story.

Ep 12: Jupiter Jazz I - B+
- Another episode fans thought would be edited more.
- Although I knew Grens breasts would go, I didn't think they'd crop the whole pair out thus confusing the audience. Thought that was unnecessary.

Ep 13: Jupiter Jazz II - B
- Same edit with recap.
- The real downside was the "bombing." Sorry, Williams Street.


After this point the grades will begin to drop due to the "quality" of the edits.


Ep 14: Bohemian Rhapsody - A+
- unedited episode

Ep 15: My Funny Valentine - C+
- Negative was the ridiculous edit of covering Faye's cleavage, seeing as how we've seen it before. If it needed covering, why not cover it in Ballad and cut the scene when her **** bounce around?

Ep 16: Black Dog Serenade - D+
- Yes it was bloody, but there were too many unnecessary blood edits. Most of them were bloody scenes that were reduced too much or removed entirely.

Ep 17: Mushroom Samba - A-
- Many fans thought this ep would be changed a lot due to our anti-drug culture and messages. What was up with the gunshot mute though?!

Ep 18: Speak Like a Child - A+
- unedited episode

Ep 19: Wild Horses - B+
- What brought this down were the clothed nudie pictures. Did you even SEE them? I needed someone to point them out to me. Personally I thought it was a waste of computer time and money.

Ep 20: Pierrot Le Fou - A-
- What made up for this were the scenes Williams Street would traditionally edit (the opening assassination) but didn't in this case. Still thought wiping the whole prison and Pierrot clean wasn't necessary.

Ep 21: Boogie Woogie Feng Shui - A+
- One **** edit again.

Ep 22: Cowboy Funk - I
- has yet to air, but I'm predicting 2 edits. Both are language.

Ep 23: Brain Scratch - A+
- Another unexpected edit. Most fans thought this would be edited more due to the history of cult related suicides.

Ep 24: Hard Luck Woman - C+
- Another episode with another dumb Faye edit.

Ep 25: The Real Folk Blues I - F
- The edit job on this episode was UNACCEPTABLE. Practically any trace of blood was removed except one. We see people vomit up blood and spill drops of blood all the time in this series. Why they would need to cut it now is utter stupidity. BAD, Williams Street!

Ep 26: The Real Folk Blues II - C-
- More blood blood blood. Mostly reduced blood but they created some continuity errors (like with Shin's bloody head).



Too bad they ended the edits with a downer. Oh well. I wonder what the next anime will be on AS?

I liked your grades for the edits. I agree on nearly all of the things you have said.
