Does anyone know if there's a listing anywhere that gives the official names and specs of the weapons seen in Ghost In The Shell: Stand Alone Complex, especially the weapons used by Section 9?

Damn, I was hoping to get a mecha over at Wal-Mart.Originally Posted by Artimus Gigan

Wal-mart, yea right... A mech would be a heavy equipment vehicle. You would have a better chance of finding one at Caterpillar for rent or buy.Originally Posted by Duke
Actually, barring the cybernetic technology, a lot of the weapon technologies in the series is actually downgraded compared to some of the weapons be developed right now in real life.Originally Posted by Artimus Gigan
For example, I read two years ago the UK military is working on an energy shield for tanks. Last I heard two years ago, the tank using the prototype shield in a test was able to withstand 10 direct hit from a RPG and still function.
Now that's cool...![]()
At first I thought the below was a XM8 Lightweight Assault Rifle (image from the episode Not Equal). Original post here Link.Originally Posted by Parco

What about that monster anti-tank gun we've seen Batou and the Major bust out with a couple of times? I'm pretty sure that's not a real weapon but I was wondering if it had a name and what sort of ammo it uses.
I'm not sure what the assault rifle it. It does resemble the XM-8, but the grip reminds me of the P90.
Major Kusanagi gave the name of a weapon when impersonating the Laughing Man. I can't remember what she said, only that it ended with, "special."
I don't remember any anti-tank guns. Are you referring to the heavy sniper-rifle, the one that Major Kusanagi goes crazy on the guy in the suit with?Originally Posted by Parco
In that case, that type of gun is real (a good example is the Barrett Model M99), the Coast Guard uses them to shoot out the engine blocks on suspect boats (and I'm sure there are other uses among the other branches), but I can't peg a precise make.

Bah there are air pressure system blow guns still being made
their rounds look like a soda can...imageine getting hit with one of those...
I think the person ment the giant gattling gun-like weapon Batou used a few weeks ago when Section 9 was invaded.Originally Posted by Delthayre

Hnm... I might be wrong, but I think he's talking about this. I know, it's on a freakin' helicopter but if Batou used it...

Since we are still talking about types of guns:
Togusa's revolver. Episode Android and I
Saito with his anti-tank gun. Episode Testation
Saito with his sniper rifle. Episode Section 9
Saito (yup again) with another sniper rifle. Episode Machines Desiranes Image 1 Image 2.
A pistol from the episode Not Equal Image.
Oh, that thing. Yeah... I'm going to have too assume that he was able to use it through the magic of being a cyborg on a TV show. The sheer mass, size, and power of one of those things would completely thrash any human trying to use it. I don't know if it was a specific model of gattling/rotary cannon, but it certainly was some nasty machinery.Originally Posted by Duke

It takes some practice to weild one efficantly, however it doesn't buck like a shotgun. It's more or less a constant hammering recoil, much like a regular machine gun. it's also why they have shoulder straps for them, they are lowslung for a reason. It helps keep the aim of it steady so it doesn't go all over the place. They are indeed heavy and their massive ammo ammounts make a fully loaded one even heavier. They are very efefctive weapons for taking out groups of targets considering their rapid bullet spray. However for a stand alone target, you would be pretty much wasting alot of ammunition. However jamming can be a problem, not to mention the sheer ammounts of smoke and heat emmited from the weapon. You really have to clean it throughly to avoid jamming problems, it they have alot of pieces to dissasemble and clean.Originally Posted by Delthayre
I'd really guess it was a Vulcan cannon, w/o the pack thingie. That's prolly why Batou used it so fast; didn't have the barrel feed.
Or something. Saito has a really big sniper rifle...![]()

Actualy Batou's seemed to have it's power source located on the bottom of the gunOriginally Posted by Tenku
if you look at the picture you'll see two big jugs on the bottom.
Yeah. It looked a little like Vulcan Raven's Gattling Gun, only a little smaller since Raven's power supply/ammunition carrier was friggin gigantic and was carried around on his back.Originally Posted by Artimus Gigan

That's my exact thought. So it is the same model but just built smaller, and carried differently. Ah. :anime:
