Wal-mart, yea right... A mech would be a heavy equipment vehicle. You would have a better chance of finding one at Caterpillar for rent or buy.

Actually, barring the cybernetic technology, a lot of the weapon technologies in the series is actually downgraded compared to some of the weapons be developed right now in real life.

For example, I read two years ago the UK military is working on an energy shield for tanks. Last I heard two years ago, the tank using the prototype shield in a test was able to withstand 10 direct hit from a RPG and still function.

Now that's cool...

After thinking about it, it does remind me of another gun... But I dunno what it is. That is an amazing rifle though. If Togusa, who has no major cybernetic implants, can use it with one hand... Dang!

What about that monster anti-tank gun we've seen Batou and the Major bust out with a couple of times? I'm pretty sure that's not a real weapon but I was wondering if it had a name and what sort of ammo it uses.

I'm not sure what the assault rifle it. It does resemble the XM-8, but the grip reminds me of the P90.

Major Kusanagi gave the name of a weapon when impersonating the Laughing Man. I can't remember what she said, only that it ended with, "special."

I don't remember any anti-tank guns. Are you referring to the heavy sniper-rifle, the one that Major Kusanagi goes crazy on the guy in the suit with?

In that case, that type of gun is real (a good example is the Barrett Model M99), the Coast Guard uses them to shoot out the engine blocks on suspect boats (and I'm sure there are other uses among the other branches), but I can't peg a precise make.

Well yeah probably not a real gun but there are rifles out there that use rediculously large caliber bullets. Here is a good example, as well as here.

Oh, that thing. Yeah... I'm going to have too assume that he was able to use it through the magic of being a cyborg on a TV show. The sheer mass, size, and power of one of those things would completely thrash any human trying to use it. I don't know if it was a specific model of gattling/rotary cannon, but it certainly was some nasty machinery.

It takes some practice to weild one efficantly, however it doesn't buck like a shotgun. It's more or less a constant hammering recoil, much like a regular machine gun. it's also why they have shoulder straps for them,they are lowslung for a reason. It helps keep the aim of it steady so it doesn't go all over the place. They are indeed heavy and their massive ammo ammounts make a fully loaded one even heavier. They are very efefctive weapons for taking out groups of targets considering their rapid bullet spray. However for a stand alone target, you would be pretty much wasting alot of ammunition. However jamming can be a problem, not to mention the sheer ammounts of smoke and heat emmited from the weapon. You really have to clean it throughly to avoid jamming problems, it they have alot of pieces to dissasemble and clean.

I'd really guess it was a Vulcan cannon, w/o the pack thingie. That's prolly why Batou used it so fast; didn't have the barrel feed.

Actualy Batou's seemed to have it's power source located on the bottom of the gun

if you look at the picture you'll see two big jugs on the bottom.

Yeah. It looked a little like Vulcan Raven's Gattling Gun, only a little smaller since Raven's power supply/ammunition carrier was friggin gigantic and was carried around on his back.

That's my exact thought. So it is the same model but just built smaller, and carried differently. Ah. :anime:
