CB: The Real Folk Blues part 2 (spoilers)....

    Like This Thread!
okay, so who just watched this?? i was planning on doing homework right after, but after that i need a breather and needed to post to express my thoughts and opinions!!!

wow, now i want bebop on dvd...anyway, i thought the last ep of CB was awesome!! it was so great. i do have a few qs though...like why didnt Jet and Faye help Spike out?? I was waiting for them to show up and shoot some bad guys from their ships, but they didnt. i guess that would have been predictable, but still, they should have been more willing to get spike's back, imo.

also, isnt there a cowboy bebop movie? does it take place before or after trfb? when was it released and is it available in usa? the main reason i ask is if theres a movie then that means spike is alive. hmmm, that was a pretty dramatic "death" so i dont know if itd be ruined if he all of a sudden survived. plus the star went out at the end, so how can he be alive??

i loved the part when faye unloads that round behind spike. thats what i really love about this series, is they are all tourtured souls, and the all are so deep and emotional. it makes for great anime.

i am just not in the mood to do hw after watching that, it was soo cool. i loved the scene where julia dies, that was beautiful, w/ the doves and all. the whole ep was just really sad and depressing, but in that really great way.

so who else watched it?? opinions, thoughts....

I gave it a 6 out of 10, mostly because Jet and Faye were largely left unexplained.

Ending it where they did sort of left a lot of glaring plot holes not fixed.

    Spoilers, spoliers

There is a movie, titled Cowboy Bebop: Knockin' on Heaven's Door. It takes place somewhere between episodes 22 and 23. So Spike's still quite dead at the end of episode 26. Sorry.

As for the ending, well, I have my own theories. Spike knew he wasn't coming back from the confrontation with Vicious. Jet and Faye knew it too, and respected his decision by not interfering. Since the series is Spike's story, it ends with him.

NOOOOOO!!!! as much as i liked the ending, i still wanted spike to be alive!!!!

man, i dont think i'd mind as much if faye and jet actually tried to help spike out. they didnt do anything which pisses me off. oh well, maybe spike wanted to die, maybe faye and jet knew it and let him die, but it still sucks that they werent willing to try and help him.

wow, knowing that spike is actually dead makes the ep even more depressing. but it still rocked.

Well, I thought Faye had already been "explained" in previous episodes, but I guess we're left wondering what happens to her? Well, she's probably nursing another broken heart at losing a potential family and Jet will continue to go bald and wander around as a single guy.

This was Spike's time, IMO, so this two parter brought it back to the main guy that started it all.

IMO i think that if Spike lived at the end he would have been miserable. With Julia gone he would have no one to love. Sure Jet and Faye would still be there for support, but with Faye never growing beyond just being friends, for Spike at least (Faye may have fallen for him but to Spike Julia was his one and only true love.)

on a side note; where was Ed? And Ein? did they leave or did the writers just think that comic relife would lessen the impact of the finalie. i miss that little scamp and her puppy

As I said in another post, I loved the ending and thought there could be no better way to end the series. I would of liked to know what happened to Faye and Jet though.

I don't know about any of you, but I'm getting that DVD set.

Ed and Ein skedaddled a few episodes previous. While they were great characters, they would have taken away from the gravity of Spike's story.

And what a story it was... a man who has nothing left to live for pushes himself over the edge to take his tormentor with him. Wow. That DVD set is mine.

Yeah, the last episode was cool. I was kinda hoping that Fay would try to get it on with Spike, though...

Wouldn't have jived in the end, though. If they did get together, it would have broken the whole tension of the show and would have ended up feeling "cheap."

I like the thought of Spike as the guy who can only freewheel around the universe because his soulmate is gone. Call me a romantic twit, but I love it.

    They lived.

It's really no surprise when you think about it. It ends in your classic film noir way. Hero dies of mortal wounds after taking out enemy, goes out looking cool (BANG!). Female member of cast feeling miserable, best friend stoic and resigned. The show is about how a bunch of strangers got together, partied for a few months, then broke up. When they break up, the show is over. What happens after that is superfluous.

Hey, you guys got a kind ending. If I were writing it, I would have been even more cruel to the characters (Must...stop watching Bonnie and Clyde...hail of bullets...too temptingly sadistic...)

i loved the ending except for the fact that faye and jet didnt even offer to help spike. they could have atleast offered and had him turn them down, something!!

but after rewatching it tonight, im starting to think maybe he wanted to die (as many have said above) and they knew so they let him be. his whole speech to faye about his life being a dream and how he wasnt going so he could die, but to find out if he was really alive, implies that if his life is a "dream" then the only way to know if your really alive is to wake up, in other words, die. so maybe jet and faye knew what he was feeling all along so they stayed out of it.

but im an optamist so if i was writing it id still have spike die, but only after he breaks into the assasin's headquarters w/ the assistence of....faye and jet!! they could let him "wake" from his dream, but perhaps they still could have helped him fight some of those guys before he reached vicious, the watch him die at the end. or maybe not, who knows. peace.

    Interesting revelation--

--that Spike has a glass eye owing to an "accident" (though one could speculate as to the implications of that word--like Jet's arm, it may have been the result of treachery from his Syndicate days).
Julia's death was haunting, esp. the way time slowed to a crawl as she fell to the groud--thud, face-first. Rather a nasty final insult, to die with one's beauty marred by a broken nose (or so I thought; actually, even in death, she was a vision, not difigured or bloodied about the face a bit).
Ed left to follow her father, and I have to wonder what that'll be like--insanity must run in the family, because the guy really seemed a bubble off plumb. He obsessively wanted to map every inch of land in the desert after the meteors hit and couldn't even remember if Ed was a boy or a girl (he addressed her with a boy's name as well).
Faye was heartbroken when Spike left...but she's not too good at expressing her feelings. She screams at him, "I know nothing about you!" and fires five shots into the ceiling after he walks out.
Now an ideal ending might be Jet and Faye mourning Spike awhile and then realizing that they have feelings for one another, but that'd be the cop-out Hollywood happy ending. Black dogs run single and fallen women remain broken on the floor--that's simply life. And like the man says, hunger is the best spice.

Getting into the clan's headquarters was a deathwish. Faye doesn't want to die, and neither does Jet. They didn't want Spike to die either, but he REALLY wanted to kill himself, see, and Faye and Jet weren't as enthused about that prospect as he was.

They could have knocked Spike out and flown out of Mars, but that would have prolonged the inevitable and would have looked pretty stupid, IMO.

I think what the creators were TRYING to show was that despite them living together, and having a fun ride for several months, they were essentially strangers to one another, a detached bunch. Notice that they always dealt with their personal problems ALONE. When one of them finally tried to open up (Faye), it was too late to save the potential "family" they could have been. (In Faye's mind)

I personally think they could have added one more episode to the 3 episode finale (Yes, it was a three-parter, IMO, including episode 24, Hard Luck Woman ), but oh well.

Beautiful dames remain beautiful even when dying, Jake.

Maybe she fell on the side of her face?

yeah, i agree about them ultimately being strangers, but they have those ships. going into the headquarters is a deathwish if you walk in, but if they bombed the place from their ships, they would have the advantage. i mean, there were many eps where faye and jet attack people and places from their ships, no big deal, why should this have been any different? well who know, it was a great ending anyway, and it was really sad when faye opened up and shot her gun as spike left. that was so cool.

Their ships don't have bombs, but they have lasers and machine guns. Enough to do minor damage to the building, but the Syndicate also have ships of their own, remember? They would have been all over Jet and Faye within minutes and they'd still be dead.

    cowboy bebop

It seems like everybody on this board wanted Jet and Faye to help Spike but the fact is they could'nt since the bebop was shot down and faye's ship was trashed. Jet actually went to look for spike in his ship (the hammerhead) by talking to that old Indian. In short it was a perfect ending to a perfect series.
