Adult Swim Dragon*Con Announcements (HUGE anime news)

    Like This Thread!
Two year old nephew running around so I weill make this short and sweet and post a more detailed thing on TZ News or adultswim.toonzone.net later.

    DATES:
Sweet J - set for December, might be pushed to January or so.
Squidbillies - pilot set for November 7
Tom Goes to the Mayor - series premiere, November 14

    NEW SHOWS:
Boondocks confirmed at Dragon*Con, it looks like all the details are in place. The pilot was screened and is apparently character-based, not thirty minutes of bashing President Bush.

American Dad repeats WILL be airing on Adult Swim.

    ANIME:
Super Milk Chan, set for 2005.
This is significant. Not only is it an anime NOBODY would expect on AS, it is their first comedic anime. It is also the first acquisition CN has ever made from ADV, barring Giant Robot Week.

    OTHER NEWS:
--For a Case Closed renewal, all signs are pointing to "no", unfortunately.
--Venture Bros. season 2 is a wait and see. The seaqson was literally just completed, and although it hasn't made it on the list of top programs, it HAS seen audience growth since week 1, in fact doubling its audience (Wolf's Rain is just edging it out)
--Andre 3000's pilot has gone into kids show mode. Meaning that you'll likely see it on regular CN.

On Milk-Chan: Looks like ADV's high-stakes gamble of doing an Americanized-dub and Straight-dub has payed off. Told y'all it would happen eventually. ADV knows that's it worth their while to hook up w/ CN, and they finally made it happen.

On Boondocks: Thank god it's character driven. They'll be able to focus on building a long lasting show that way.

On Case Closed: Too bad, but atleast we'll get 3 last new episodes before all is said and done.

Yes! Uh-huh, uh-huh.... Super Milk Chan! Uh-huh, uh-huh..... Super Milk Chan!

Wow, I'm really happy about this announcement. I can't believe they're putting Cuper Milk Chan on. I'm sure this is going to be pretty successful. I'm glad AS thought outside of the box for once.

Well, FLCL was thinking out side of the box too. It wouldn't surprise me if they were looking hard at other Anime that actually have some more (for lack of a better term) "American" humor in the wake of FLCL's success. The Americanized version of "Milk-Chan" provides that. Hopefully they'll look to "Hare and Guu" and "Kodocha" as possibilities in the future if the rights are ameanable to TV (both might have rights issues; I'm not sure,) and if Milk-Chan gets them interested in more "American"-like humor.

I'm hoping for a roaring success... but you never know.

Hare and Guu is AN Entertainment, and AN Entertainment is still not sure about how they're doing to be showing Hare and Guu around, if at all. I remember them saying something like "Support our other stuff and then we'll see what happens!"

Kodocha is FUNimation and suffice to say, I don't think FUNimation Americanizing anything is a good idea, because they cannot do it properly.

Also I hope that AS knows exactly which version of the dub they're getting...

I guess Conan was getting too much of a non-adult audience for Adult Swim standards. . Well it could always show up on Friday nights like .hack//sign with new eppys. And super milk chan? I thought that was like a 5 minute show...

Yeh, FLCL was definately outside of the box. but it's been a while with Blue Gender to WHR to Wolf's Rain being so serious to comedy is really nice. I agree, the "Americanized" humor will definately get people interested. I'm not sure if it was you, but didn't you say something about how the Japanese version of the series was so boring that it didn't even seem like they were trying? I've only seen two episodes so I really don't know much of it, but it looked pretty damn good to me.

Evangelion is actually not that bad until the last 2 eppys. I thoroughly enjoyed it until ep 25+26 where the only part I understood was the warped reality that Shinji dreamed of where he was a pervert.

I came into this thinking PA and SC...oh how dumb of me.

Not bad news, but while great it's not making my day. Now people can officially stop the "ADV dislikes CN and vice versa" crap and I can finally watch Milk. No Conan sounds like a dumb move to me personally, what triggered that?

8 minutes to be precise, and there are only 14 episodes (source). I'd just like to say what a fine acquisition this was; since Adult Swim has such a SEVERE lack of absurd, tiresome, overplayed comedy shows.

    Oh, wait.

This needs to go on Sundays; I find the prospect of this....thing being their idea of a replacement for Case Closed laughable.

I got the feeling Case Closed is getting canned because it doesn't really fit into the idea of "mature cartoons" even with some violence, and was probably attracting kids too young to be watching Adult Swim. This is just conjecture and is probably wrong though.

Checking out the Super Milk-Chan site it looks like some super kawaii :anime: stuff crossed with Ren and Stimpy; I dig the style.

I'm honestly not too excited about American Dad. The pilot was pretty terrible and was just rehashed Family Guy characters/jokes with the whole OMG TERRISTS humor which is just getting played out at this point.

I got the same feeling from the Boondocks, but I'm glad it's going for a character based thing rather than straight up bush bashing for a half hour. The guys style is pretty derivative though and it's going to take alot to get me to sit down and really get into the show. I got a feeling it's going to be like Baby Blues where I'm not too sure how sucessful it is, but most people who watch adult swim don't really dig it too much.

Hey with Super-Milk Chan being 8 minutes long and the Adult Swim originals being similar in length! This means that maybe we'll have a hybrid block of Action and Comedy. Also I call the edit lists for Super-Milk Chan.

now that I'm back from voyaging to the world of playhouse disney's website (their announcer is the most aqnnoying woman ever)...

Boondocks pilot isn't really representative of what the show will be like, at least content-wise. It'll still likely be character-based. But Fox made them cut out a lot of the more objectionable content. The edits will be suitably less on AS.

There are 2 series. One from 1998 and one from 2000. For all we know they may have both since both are licensed.

I'm waiting for Sweet J, hopefully it'll be in Decemeber. Good news on american dad re-runs, might get some good ratings in.

On anime, an ADV anime, finally, some light between them. hopefully this show won't be the last from ADV.

No more CC, that makes me sad. Hopefully things will work out. Good news to hear VB increasing with the audience. On andre 300's pilot, he had a pilot planned for CN, cool to hear.
