Well I must've missed that scene. The cable kinda fuzzed out at one point and during that scene and the part when Richard was on the TV.

Well, her being Rachel's mom was fairly obvious, but it made for an enjoyable episode, especially since the case was handled quite well. Man, she's even scarier than Rachel though.

I admit it, the whole "Rachel's Mom is the suspect" angle they were going for in the first half threw me off, so I didn't suspect it until Conan pointed out the bandage.

Wow, so that's Rachel's mom. Coolness! I thought she was dead. Nice to see not everyone in Japan has a dead mother/father. Oh, and I loved the final scene, with the Mom warning Rachel about Jimmy.

We DO see Rachel's mom again, right? A simple yes or no will do.

Does Rachel's mom make any repeat appearances? She was quite interesting...

Nice to see that Conan isn't afraid to solve a mystery when nobody who might think he is Jimmy is around.

I thought that Rachel's mom might have been someone else, I was figuring she would be made into some rogue for Conan in the future. Although the fact that she recognizes that Conan is at least as smart as Jimmy makes her dangerous.

Anyway the episode was pretty good, I had figured out the side story about Rachel. But the main mystery and the indentity of the lady who scares the hell out of Conan I wasn't able to get, and was pretty good in retrospect.

Cool! We got to see Rachel's mom for the first time ever! I was wondering where she was this whole time. I wonder if we'll be seeing more of her in the future? I hope so. She's cool.

For those people asking about whether Rachel's mother will appear again or not: I can confirm that she will indeed make an another appearance (as she does appear in the second movie).


Interesting enough, even though I have seen the second film, the fact that Conan's main suspect was Rachel's mom took me totally by surprise.

You'll notice that her Judou styles are the exact same as Richard's.

Eva was her name right? And I see she used the cliché "ring's stuck on the finger". I thought, since the moment I saw her, she'd become a main character. It was too obvious.

Very. Highly intelligent *and* observant. Combine those with "mom" instincts and Conan's secret would be out fairly quickly if she stuck around...

I liked how it seemed like a race between who would solve it first, her or Conan. I wonder if she was Richard's partner before becoming a lawyer.

Well, I really liked this episode. Lots of thinking on Conan's part. I still wonder why she lied about seeing Jimmy.

After seeing Murder at the Local Diner, I have to say that I was a bit freaked at that lawyer..

but what freaked me out more.. what that

HOLY CRACKERS! she's RACHEL'S MOM????

maybe Conan should rethink and go talk to Amy..

with a mother like that.. I shudder to think about this..

but all in all this wasn't much of a Brainteaser but it sure kept me laughing..

so you could say this one gets an A- for the laughs..

Hi,

So what is Kisaki Eri's (last, first), Rachel's mom, name in the dub please?
Eri and Richard were in the same Judo club at school (university).
She became a lawyer, Richard is an ex-police detective (that hasn't been said in the dub?). So they never worked together solving cases.

Eri won't see again until ep96 and then in ep 114/115 as well as some other higher episodes.

Heheheh, so we now have our unexpected person.

1. Talk about a scary (would-be) mother-in-law! The one thing Jimmy fears - she often scolded them as kids (not just that one time in the dub). That's why Jimmy developed an unconscious reflexive complex about her (like just from the look of her eyes). And she's as smart as Jimmy, so Jimmy can't put anything over her.

1a. And I won't even go into the pseudo-Oedipus Rex complex with Jimmy thinking she's a knockout. CN already has enough incest thing going lately.

2. Now the changes:

a. The victim Ivonne originally gave out another clue that was changed out. When she pretended not to know where the restroom was, she slipped up that she already knew it was unisex - which Conan noted. (As Conan said, that was just her signal to meet up in the restroom.)

b. That "Rachel's date" guy Steve originally bragged that about an innocent girl ("Rachel"): "When I make a girl mine, I do what I want with her." And that he has other girls too.
That's why Conan really wanted to hurt that guy... and pinched the guy's cheek when he had the chance in the restroom.

c. Stupid FUNi and their pronouns that could've been worked around!
Originally, Rachel never specified the gender of her "date." That's why the viewers could keep guessing from all 4 suspects + 1 victim.

d. Originally, Ran's mom didn't specify meeting a "relative" neither, just "someone." Though I guess it doesn't matter if viewers still couldn't figure it out, but it's supposed to leave viewers vague on what she has to do with Rachel... till the very end.

e. Originally, Ran's mom's one-arm judo throw also reminded Conan of just "someone" (presumably Richard, not Rachel (as in the dub) since Rachel does karate, not judo).

f. Originally, Ran's mom's first thing to say to Rachel was scolding Rachel for wearing such a short skirt (though ironically, she herself was wearing seemingly a short skirt as well :anime: ). Then Rachel complained to stop being treated like a kid.

g. OK, here's the big one: originally according to Ran's mom, she only keeps the ring on because it keeps away "other dirty men," and she only married Richard because they were childhood friends. And guess who is another childhood friend that became a detective?
That's right! That's why she warned Rachel about him! And why Conan/Jimmy got pissed off at Richard's latest pervy stunt. Jimmy and Richard are more similar than they'd like to think! (Gotta love that side-by-side scene of their faces in the end.)

Rachel really didn't want her father to find out whom she visited, even worse than dating Jimmy.
