Final Episodes of "Spectacular Spider-Man" Scheduled; Jennifer Coyle Interviewed
The final 3 episodes of the new hit superhero cartoon The Spectacular Spider-Man have been scheduled, starting with “Group Therapy,” Spider-Man’s epic battle with the Sinister Six that debuted last Saturday, May 31. The next two Saturdays will bring the first season to a close, with “Intervention” premiering on June 7, 2008, followed by “Nature vs. Nurture” on June 14. Both new episodes will premiere at 10:00 AM (Eastern/Pacific) after a re-run of an older episode (“The Uncertainty Principle” on June 7 and “Persona” on June 14). The publicity department for The Spectacular Spider-Man has also released an interview with director Jennifer Coyle about “Group Therapy.” Coyle has been a Spider-Man fan for years, with Spidey emblazoned on her motorcycle jacket in her days growing up in Rolling Hills and at Cal State Long Beach. She states that, “Spider-Man offer me the best of all worlds – it’s comedy and cartoony and zany, there’s great acting and amazing action.” Bringing the Sinister Six was a real challenge, since, “When you’re doing fight scenes with that many characters, you really need to focus on the choreography. You have to make sure the action stays clear, quick and interesting, and you have to focus on moments to highlight each of the characters.” Still, she added that “It was exciting on a number of levels – because it’s the first time they’re all together, and because it sets the groundwork for a lot of the episodes in the future.” She also comments briefly on being one of very few female animation directors, let alone on an action-oriented show, and the different perspectives she brings to the show as a woman.
