"Fantasia": Animation Fantastique

The Walt Disney quote on the packaging is truth in advertising: Fantasia is timeless. Seventy years after its debut in 1940, no production has brought animation and truly great music together in such a perfect synthesis. Fantasia was an experimental project of the best sort, an earnest attempt by Walt Disney and his company to […]

"Tangled": It's Everything I Hoped 'The Princess And The Frog' Would Be!

"Batman Beyond: The Complete Series": Beyond Brilliant

Batman Beyond may be one of the greatest animated action shows ever made. Yes, I know that may seem like an exaggeration, but I assure you, it isn’t. This is a show on par with the likes of Gargoyles, Justice League Unlimited and at times, yes, even Batman: The Animated Series. The funny thing is, […]

"Firebreather" Doesn't Quite Set the World on Fire

While DC Comics had its share of teenaged superhero sidekicks, Marvel Comics truly established the archetype of the full-fledged teen superhero with Spider-Man and the X-Men. The kind of teenaged angst when everything is a matter of life-and-death meshed well with the actual life-and-death action that drives superhero comic book stories, and acquiring and learning […]
