Eric Powell on Why "The Goon" Needed to be Animated

by on April 13, 2009

MTV’s Splash Page weblog spoke to comic book artist Eric Powell recently about the upcoming CGI animated adaptation of his series The Goon, published by Dark Horse Comics. Powell stated, “I always felt that the material would work better animated, just because of the bizarre nature of the characters and the atmosphere of the stories,” but that he hesitated due to the cool reception more adult-themed animation receives in the United States. Powell also explains how Goon director David Fincher convinced him to do the movie as CGI animation, and how the success of more unconventional animated movies and Adult Swim indicates there might be a bigger audience for adult animation than before.
