Dora Voice Actress Sues Nickelodeon

by on October 8, 2010

The Hollywood Reporter reports that Caitlin Sanchez, the 14-year-old who was the voice of Nickelodeon’s hit pre-school series Dora The Explorer is suing the network, and parent companies MTV Networks and Viacom. The teenage actress stated that she and her parents were forced to sign an “unconscionable” contract by Nickelodeon without the advice of an attorney. Sanchez also stated that the network told her, her parents, and her agent they had 22 minutes to sign the contract or the deal is off.

Sanchez was 12-years-old when she voiced Dora in 2007. She was promised over $5,000 per episode, as well as a cut in Dora’s merchandising profits that was worth millions of dollars. She was let go when her voice started changing.

Sanchez’s attorney John Balestriere also mentioned the contract was never submitted to a court for approval.

A spokesman for Nickelodeon said that Sanchez was “well compensated for her work and for personal appearances”, and was offered a contract for other work with the network.
