by on April 1, 2013

Writer Don Payne passed away on Tuesday, March 26, 2013, at his home in Los Angeles, CA, at the age of 48. The cause was sarcoma, according to fellow writer John Frink, who worked with Payne as a scriptwriter on The Simpsons. Frink and Payne wrote for sitcoms like Hope and Gloria and Men Behaving Badly before signing on to The Simpsons in 1998. Payne served as a writer and producer on The Simpsons, ultimately writing more than a dozen episodes of the show (five of them solo) and serving as a consulting producer on 100. In addition to his work on The Simpsons, Payne wrote My Super Ex-Girlfriend (released to theaters in 2006) and shared writing credits for 2007’s Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer and 2011’s Thor.
