D’oh! No New Simpsons Movie

by on March 12, 2013

Despite making half a billion dollars in 2007 money, there will be no more Spider-Pig, acid-firing super drill, Emperor Moe appearances or Homer showing us how to eat a shrimp which has escaped through the grill slats – at least for the foreseeable future. Matt Groening revealed that “The Simpsons Movie”, while it was a wild success, also cost the animators four years of their lives and “nearly killed us”, not to mention taking animators away from the television series so they could work on the movie. So, Groening says, there will be no sequel on the near horizon, though the door has been left open for a possible sequel in 10 or 15 years when the animators might have more time on their hands.

“The Simpsons Movie” opened in July 2007 and went on to make $527 million worldwide – putting it into the Top 100 top money makers of all-time according to Box Office Mojo.
