Disney Threatens Legal Action Over “Misleading” DVD Releases

by on September 10, 2012

The Guardian reports that Disney is threatening legal action against Brightspark Entertainment over what Disney terms “misleading” budget DVD releases that are packaged to look like animated films from Disney or Pixar. Disney specifically cited Braver, whose DVD cover shares a red-haired princess in a green dress with Disney/Pixar’s Brave movie posters.

Other titles released by Brightspark include Tangled Up, which is similar to Tangled; The Frog Princess, which compares to The Princess and the Frog; and Little Cars, which is comparable to Disney/Pixar’s Cars. The films all seem to capitalize on the “drafting phenomenon” documented recently by The Los Angeles Times.
