Disney Sued Over “Toy Story 3” Evil Stuffed Bear

by on February 11, 2014

New Jersey-based Diece-Lisa Industries has filed a lawsuit against Disney Enterprises for trademark and patent infringement over the “Lots-O-Huggin’ Bear” character in Toy Story 3. Diece-Lisa holds a trademark and patents for their “Lots of Hugs” stuffed toy bears, and notes that DLI’s “hugging technology” was licensed by a Disney affiliate for Bear in the Big Blue House merchandise, which DLI uses as evidence that Disney was aware of the intellectual property in question. The new lawsuit claims that DLI has also experienced harm from the film, specifically citing a case where a licensor required changes due to fear of confusion with Disney’s “Lots-O-Huggin” bear products.

In Toy Story 3, Lots-O-Huggin Bear (a.k.a., “Lotso”) was the leader of the toys at a day care center, but whose plushy exterior masked a much darker side.
