The first big scene from Wreck-It Ralph 2 was shown yesterday evening during Disney’s D23 event, and it’s sure an interesting one. One of the first things Ralph does in this movie is meet up with every (popular) Disney Princess, simultaneously in one scene.
Despite what you might think, this has never happened before. The store shelves are full of Disney Princess merchandise, but the girls are all depicted staring into space, never at each other. Up to this point, Disney has held a strict rule in place that their stock of royals cannot interact with one another ever. The reason for this has never been explained, and if this means they’re doing away with that requirement, good — it never made sense.
The plot as we know it thus far (excluding the fact that Ralph Breaks The Internet) is that Sugar Rush is malfunctioning and needs a patch. Ralph and Vanellope venture into the Web to retrieve the missing code and bring it back, but get stuck in detours along the way. The first place they wind up is called OhMyDisney.com (a real site) where characters from the company’s entire stable run around and interact. We see classic figures, superheroes from Marvel and droids from Star Wars, and then Vanellope wanders into a room where all the Princesses are lounging around.
What follows are antics right out of an Amy Mebberson Pocket Princesses cartoon. The girls immediately question Vanellope’s right to be there, but she insists she’s a Princess too. Then she convinces them to ditch their elaborate wardrobes in favor of slacker sweatwear similar to her own, followed by a confession scene where Snow White admits she needs glasses and Jasmine confesses she’s actually allergic to cats.
And yes, all the voices are authentic. After the scene screened for the D23 audience, all the contributors walked onstage: Paige O’Hara (Belle), Irene Bedard (Pocahontas), Mandy Moore (Rapunzel), Auli’i Cravalho (Moana), Sarah Silverman (Vanellope von Schweetz), Kristen Bell (Anna), Kelly Macdonald (Merida), Anika Noni Rose (Tiana), Linda Larkin (Jasmine), and Jodi Benson (Ariel). They are shown in the photo above in the listed order.
The fact that Ralph isn’t afraid to wreck the hand that feeds him gets us hyped for this movie even more. Ralph Breaks The Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2 is set to open November 21, 2018.
