Disney & Weinsteins Parting Ways

by on March 29, 2005

The Walt Disney Company and Miramax announced in a joint release today that the Weinstein brothers will leave the specialty film studio after September 30 to create a new company, ending their 12-year relationship with the Mouse House.

Disney, meanwhile, will retain the Miramax Films label, as well as the libraries of both Miramax and its related Dimension Films. The Weinsteins will carry the Dimension label with them when they leave.

The Weinsteins and Disney say they will continue their relationship and could collaborate on 25 or more film projects, including further sequels to the Spy Kids and Scary Movie franchises.
