At Anime Expo on Thursday, Digital Manga Publishing announced that it has reached an agreement with Tezuka Productions to distribute the library of Japanese comics by the late Osamu Tezuka digitally. Tezuka is remembered for such manga titles as Astro Boy, Kimba the White Lion, Princess Knight, Black Jack, Phoenix, Message to Adolf and Buddha, among others. Prior to his death in 1989, Tezuka is credited for having created over 700 manga throughout his prolific and seminal career. DMP is currently in talks for digital rights for Osamu Tezuka manga already physically published in English. As this deal is newly struck, release details and DMP’s schedule for releasing Tezuka’s body of work are not currently known.
Prior to this announcement, DMP had recently achieved print runs for Tezuka’s Atomcat, Barbara, Swallowing the Earth, Triton of the Sea and Unico through successful crowdfunding campaigns on Kickstarter.
