Rowland B. Wilson, R.I.P.

Cartoonist Rowland B. Wilson, who worked at Walt Disney Feature Animation on such films as The Little Mermaid, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Tarzan, and Hercules, passed away on June 28, 2005, AWN reports. A funeral service was held today in Oceanside, California.

CN and Boomerang Come to Fios TV

A slate of Turner Broadcasting System channels, including Cartoon Network and Boomerang, will be available on Verizon’s Fios TV platform, which launches later this year, World Screen reports. The service aims to offer customers a competitive alternative to cable or satellite via Verizon’s fiber-to-the-premises (FTTP) broadband network.

BBC Names "Little Robots" U.S. Licensing Agent

The Joester Loria Group has been named U.S. licensing agent for Little Robots by BBC Worldwide, World Screen reports. The series is set to air on Cartoon Network’s Tickle U block.

Jim Henson's Creature Shop Closes

Jim Henson’s Creature Shop, the London-based visual effects and animatronics division, has been shut down, C21 Media reports. The closure was blamed on the weak U.S. dollar and the U.K. production environment.

"Postman Pat" Comes to Japan

"Benjamin Bear" Gets Third Season

The Canadian Family Channel has ordered a third season of Ottawa-based Amberwood Entertainment’s cartoon The Secret World of Benjamin Bear, C21 Media reports, adding another 13 half hours to the library. The order brings the total library to 39 half hours.

Toon Boom Animation, Inc. has announced Toon Boom Studio v3, a major upgrade to their 2D animation software for MacOS and Windows. New features include a Free Transform tool, improved sound scrubbing to adjust lip synchronization, and anti-aliasing support under MacOS X.

Jack Kirby Museum and Research Center Announced

Lisa Kirby, daughter of Jack Kirby, has announced the creation of the Jack Kirby Museum and Research Center. The new museum will focus on the study, preservation, and appreciation of Kirby, best known as the co-creator of many of Marvel Comics’ most iconic characters.

Disney and Sprint to Launch Mobile Phone Service

The Walt Disney Corporation is teaming with Sprint to launch a national wireless phone service in the United States next year. The service, to be called Disney Mobile, will be designed for families and will be part of the Walt Disney Internet Group, which currently offers Disney-branded content for mobile phones.
