Corus Kids Releases July 2009 Programming Highlights

Canada’s Corus Kids has released July 2009 programming highlights for both the YTV and Treehouse networks. YTV will be participating in the 10th Anniversary of SpongeBob SquarePants by airing the top 100 episodes of the show as voted by viewers, culminating in the premiere of “To SquarePants or Not to SquarePants” on July 31, 2009, at 5:30 PM (Eastern). On the Treehouse network, Ni Hao, Kai-lan will premiere “Kai-Lan Goes to China” on July 12, 2009, where the title character and all her friends travel to China to celebrate a baby panda’s first 100 days party.

YTV Celebrates SpongeBob’s 10th Anniversary with 100 Episodes

Season 2 of The Next Star Premieres on YTV

(June 1, 2009 – Toronto, Canada) YTV celebrates summer this July with a month-long sponge-tastic event in celebration of SpongeBob’s 10th anniversary, and Season 2 of YTV‘s popular The Next Star returns with host Adamo Ruggiero (Degrassi: The Next Generation).


Everyone’s favourite sea sponge is turning 10 this summer! In celebration of this momentous occasion, YTV will be paying tribute to Bikini Bottom with a month-long SpongeBob SquarePants programming event that will showcase viewers’ favourite 100 episodes in order of popularity as voted by them. Viewers can go online and vote for their favourite episode on YTV.com until Monday, June 15.

Beginning on Monday, July 6 until Friday, July 31, YTV will countdown the top 100 SpongeBob SquarePants episodes, as voted by viewers, Monday to Friday from 3:30 p.m. until 6 p.m. during The Zone hosted by Carlos.

Toping it all off, this event will close with the premiere episode To SquarePants or Not To SquarePants on Friday, July 31 at 5:30 p.m. in The Zone.

From thousands of kids across Canada, a lucky six are going to learn how to tackle every aspect of the music biz in hopes of becoming Season 2’s The Next Star. Modeled after Season 1, the top 16 kids, all aged 15 and under, will begin the journey to become Canada’s next young singing sensation, but only six finalists will be chosen to go through The Next Star process; a series of assignments to equip them in becoming a star. Whether the endeavour is a vocal challenge, mastering a media interview or nailing down a signature look, the question will be: who can master all facets of being a true star? The finalist with the most viewer votes will be named the winner and take the title of The Next Star at the live finale, and receive the grand prize.

Hosted again this year by Adamo Ruggiero, The Next Star hopefuls will be mentored by an esteemed panel of Canadian experts, including returning mentors, musician Suzie McNeil, songwriter Christopher Ward andmusic marketing exec Steve Cranwell. The Next Star premieres Friday, July 17 at 6 p.m. as part of Big Fun Fridays on YTV.


When Carly starts dating a bad boy, she tries to keep their relationship a secret from her older brother Spencer. Meanwhile, Carly’s best friend Sam pays Freddie to build her a website posting all of her favourite gross-out videos. iCarly: iGet Caught premieres Friday, July 10 at 6 p.m.

Break out the birthday cake as YTV pays tribute to Canada on Wednesday, July 1. To mark Canada’s birthday, beginning at 3 p.m., YTV will be airing some of viewers’ favourite Canadian series with back-to-back episodes of Kid vs. Kat, League of Super Evil, Family Biz and Prank Patrol. The celebrations will come to a close with the Canadian musical movie King of the Camp beginning at 10 p.m.

Forever loyal and always loving, dogs will always be our best friends. Beginning on Friday, July 24 to Sunday, July 26, YTV celebrates pooches with canine-themed episodes and movies the entire family can enjoy.

Kai-lan receives a phone call from her favourite great aunt in China, Gunainai, inviting her to meet a baby panda. YeYe, Kai-lan, and their friends take an airplane overseas to attend a very special party marking the birth of the panda, who is almost 100 days old. When the group goes shopping for a birthday gift, Hoho has to help keep the panda distracted so that the presents are a surprise. Throughout their journey, Kai-lan and her friends are amazed by all the new things they see in China. Rintoo and Tolee are wary to try some new things in China. Ni Hao Kai Lan: Kai Lan Goes to China premieres on Sunday, July 12 at 6 p.m.
