Summary: The
Commander escapes prison, and wants revenge on Superman.
Description: After
being humiliated a long time ago by Superman, the Commander finally decides to
escape! As the Commander commands, the guards allow him to leave his cell at
Stryker`s Island and give him back his super villain gear... due to the deep
hypnotic suggestions that he implanted in the guards' minds, he has no
difficulty at all in escaping. Not to shabby. Now he plans to unleash terror on
Metropolis.
Meanwhile, Superman is helping Professor Hamilton
at STAR Labs with a highly dangerous isotope. This little experiment is
interrupted when Superman hears of the Commander's escape. Superman arrives on
the top of a building where the Commander is ordering money from his victims.
They willingly comply and when Superman shows up, they all jump off the
building. Superman saves them as the Commander runs off.
Deciding that Superman is becoming too large of a
threat, the Commander sends a hypnotic message over the airways telling everyone
to kill Superman. The action results in complete chaos wherever Superman
appears. Whenever he brings in criminals, the police shoot at him, when he tries
to save a truck,...etc... Eventually, Superman plans with Hamilton, who has not
seen the broadcast. (Wow! Good job Prof!) They lure the Commander to STAR Labs
by advertising the power of the isotope and sending out a challenge in claiming
that their security is the best there is. The Commander shows up without any
problem and finds Superman waiting in a chamber for him. Superman carries him
off to Stryker's Island even as the Commander rants that he will not lift the
hypnotisms off the citizens of Metropolis so that they won't attack Superman.
However, when Supes flies through the air to
Stryker's Island holding onto the Commander, the guards open fire on Superman,
almost hitting the Commander. Thus, the villain agrees to turn off the
hypnotism, and Lex somehow gets hold of the Commander gear.
Review: I'm
mixed on this issue. The return of a somewhat lame villain with a so-so story
with some good art. The story is nothing amazing, and the villain ain't all that
great as well. The art is always up to Almancio standards, which is pretty good.
Overall, a good effort, but nothing super. Another thing, when will this series
establish and acknowledge the events of LEGACY??
