Issue #43 - May 2000

Title: Are you my Mother Box?

Writer: Jordan B. Gorfinkel
Artist: Min S. Ku
Inker: Terry Austin
Colorist: Marie Severin
Letterer: Clem Robins
Cover Art: Mike Manley & Terry Austin

Summary:
When a ordinary punk finds a discarded Mother Box, all Apokolips break loose in Metropolis.

Description
The story begins with Superman going toe to toe against some Para demons. Oddly enough, down below young street punks are cheering on for the Para demon to win. (Does this take place after "Legacy"?). Soon enough Superman beats the Para demon, who drops his Mother Box (New Gods Technology), and a street punk named Cecil picks it up. Cecil is always getting picked on by his gang, and with this new fond power, he's going to get his revenge, on everyone! Soon Professor Hamilton and Superman are onto the fact that one of the many Para demons captured is missing his Mother Box. The race to find the missing Box begins.

Meanwhile. Cecil is slowly taking over his band. First off he lets his old boss get captured by Superman. The he goes on wild crime sprees. All the time his Mother Box is giving him the top information, making him able to elude police, Superman, and any means of capture But, Cecil's boss, who hates him, gives away the location of their hideout. Superman is able to corner Cecil. Superman begins to tell Cecil of the amazing place where the 'Mother Boxes are plentiful.

Be begs his Mother Box to take him there, and she does. But after being there for a few short moments he's scared and asks Superman to take him back to Earth. There, on Earth, he's arrested and taken to jail.

Comments:
A good story with real good art, but I have two teeny problems. One: what is with Clark's Leopard press pants? Clark, this ain't the 70's! Two: The Mother Box acting like a real mother. In the mainstream comics, she's a computer with a female voice. A computer connected to 'The Source'. Here, the Box is there for comedy. Over, this was a good story, with some killer art by Min S. Ku, who also does this month's BATMAN BEYOND #7. One other thing, does this issue take place before/after "Legacy"? I can't tell!
