Issue #26 - December 1998

Title: Yesterday's Man of Tomorrow

Writer: Mark Millar
Penciller: Aluir Almancio
Inker: Terry Austin
Colorist: Marie Severin
Letter: Lois Buhalis
Cover Art: Rick Burchett & Terry Austin

Summary:
Mxy returns with the ultimate idea to stop Superman -- by stopping him before he even was Superman!

Description:
Flashback 13 years when Clark is set to graduate and his powers are slowly emerging. Clark talks to his dad about all the good he can do with his powers, but Pa tells him to be patient. Then Mxy appears and tells Clark Kent that he will start out good -- then become a tyrant. Mxy convinces Clark the only way he can stop this is to exile himself -- on the moon.

Mxy zings back to the future and starts to have his way with the world, starting with (naturally) Metropolis. He soon becomes really bored without no one to pester. Mxy goes to the moon and asks Clark to return. Clark refuses at first, angering Mxy. Mxy then banishes himself to the 5th dimension, undoing all he had did previously. Everything is back to normal and Mxy now waits for the next 90 days...

Review:
It was a good story...well sorta. Mxy has always been a favorite character of mine and he goes all out loony. It's a good Mxy story, but not a good Superman story. Supes doesn't do much besides sit around and complain and refuse to do stuff. Aluir Almancio's art continues to please. I can't see how anyone could hate his art! It's awesome! I love it! Millar, though, gives us a pretty disappointing tale. What could've been awesome on two levels, is only good on one.
