Issue #24 - October 1998

Title: Power Corrupts, Super Power Corrupts Absolutely!

Writer: Mark Millar
Penciller: Aluir Almancio
Inker: Terry Austin
Colorist: Marie Severin
Letter: Lois Buhalis
Cover Art: Rick Burchett & Terry Austin

Summary:
The Parasite has stolen Superman's powers and is on a mad rampage, but for what purpose?

Description:
The story starts with Superman flying to the rescue of a skydiver whose chute has failed to open. As Superman heads in for the rescue, he goes about this routine, for Supes, rescue. Then the skydiver reveals himself to be the Parasite. Draining almost all of Superman's power, Parasite uses that power to embarrass and beat the crud outta Superman, drive away the onlookers who try and protect him, and fly off. Pretty devious, hunh?

We learn that Parasite once had a romantic interest in the Healer -- Rainsong -- and had been amassing the wealth to impress her so that they could live happily ever after. Incase you have no idea who Rainsong is, she had a cameo in The Hand Of Fate. Before Rainsong can respond to his offer to live a life of luxury and money, a semi-recovered Superman and the SCU converge on Parasite's un-secret hideout. (Hint: Make your hideout's SECRET)

In an effort to help out the already crappy situation, the SCU, fires a missile into The Parasite's hideout, causing massive damage, and only a super(man)-powered Parasite prevents a wall from crushing Superman and his love, Rainsong. He orders Superman to save "his girl", as the powers he absorbed are fading fast, and the two of them escape just as the building comes down around them. (Great timing!) Parasite is presumed dead, as usual, but no body is found. (as usual)

Review:
Not a bad issue. While The Parasite has a motivation, does he really need one? I can sort of see him needing it, seeing how he used to be known as 'Wimpy' Rudy Jones. Aluir Almancio's art continues to shine in this series. I'm pretty sure that this title will help him become somewhat popular with Superman, and comic, fans as this title -- and his art -- continues.
