Issue #02 - December 1996

Title: Be Careful What You Wish For...

Writer: Scott McCloud
Penciller: Rick Burchett
Inker: Terry Austin
Colorist: Marie Severin
Letterer: Lois Buhalis
Cover Art: Rick Burchett & Terry Austin

Summary:
A woman claiming to be Superman's girlfriend gets more than she bargained for when Metallo comes calling.

Description:
This issue begins with a woman, Kelly, shouting for help just to get Superman's attention because she has a huge crush on him Of course he comes, scolds her, and then flies off. He leaves, grumbling that this sort of thing is happening all the time. When one of Kelly's neighbors asks what Superman was doing flying out of her apartment, she tells him that she's Superman's girlfriend. Of course, the news spreads rapidly. The news spreads from one side of Metropolis to the other, eventually making it to the more...seedier side.

Metallo finds out, and wants to use the information to his advantage. He kidnaps her, and is going to use her to draw Superman into battle, which he will win because he's "The Man With The Kryptonite Heart!" as the call him. A fight ensures, with Superman naturally wiping the floor with Metallo. Then the aftermath of the fight draws a crows of reporters where Superman debunks Kelly's claim. Kelly recovers quickly and says Superman cheated on her with Lois Lane and hilarity ensues.

Review:
A great spin on an old tale. This Kelly character is a great character and I wish she actually appeared in the cartoon, but most likely won't. The art is nice and crisp, and the story is flawless right down to the wire. I can honestly say I found nothing wrong with this issue at all. Perfect in almost everyway.
