Brain creates a cheesy sci-fi movie, recruiting
B-movie actors, and splicing subliminal messages
throughout. However, filming doesn’t go quite as
well as they’d hoped…
Description:
In 1960, Brain decides to create a sci-fi film,
splicing in subliminal messages to tell the humans
not to bathe. Not able to stand the stench,
they’ll make Brain ruler, as the only person who
can end it. He hires several has-been actors, and
has Pinky carry out most of the behind-the-scenes
duties. The film stars the mice, who play two aliens
coming to Earth in hope of enslaving all humanity
with a Dinubian Zombie Ray Gun. But when they try to
get the parts to the gun from Dr. Fang (played by a
Bela Lugosi caricature), he’s uncooperative. Soon,
things start to go rather poorly—the stars begin
quitting one by one, Raymond Burr keeps popping onto
the set though his cameo isn’t ‘til the end, and
the sprinkler system breaks. They make two roles of
subliminals—Brain’s role, and a test role with
Pinky. By the grand finale (with Raymond Burr as the
President), Pinky is playing nearly every part in
the film. When it’s done they rush it to the
premiere. But in their haste, they edit in Pinky’s
subliminals…

AYPWIP:
BRAIN: Pinky, are you pondering what I’m
pondering?
PINKY: I think so,
Brain, but is the world ready for angora
bellbottoms? I mean I can see wearing them inside
out, but that would-- [BONK!]
COMMANDER BRAIN: Are
you pondering what I’m pondering, Lt. Pinky?
LIEUTENANT PINKY: I
think so, Commander Brain from Outer Space! But do
we have time to grease the rockets?
Quote of the Story:
BRAIN: The show must
go on…
PINKY: I believe
it’s coming down, Brain.
BRAIN: Another
comment like that, Pinky, and I swear I’ll put the
alligator scene back in.
Review:
One of the funniest stories of the series. A
tremendous job here by McCann, although it helps if
one knows a bit about the original Plan 9 from Outer Space—I’d suggest renting the film to fully
appreciate this story—it’ll be worth a few
laughs, if nothing else. Also the debut of Bassoukos,
who does a great coloring job here, and compliments
Carzon’s superb artwork. And you gotta love that
cover. Grade A in every category.
