Jahrome Youngker

Summary:
The Warners get plastic surgery.

Pages (out of 32): 2 pp.

Quote of the Story:
DOT: [Reading an issue of People with the Warners on the cover.]: I love doctors' offices--they're the only place I can read magazines as old as I am!

Review:
Well, it serves its purpose to act as an intro to the otherwise Warner-less issue. I'm not completely comfortable with the idea of the Warners getting plastic surgery, but…

Title: Rita & Runt in "Mace Ventura: Pet Hunter"

Writer: Dave King
Penciller:
Leonardo Batic
Inker:
Scott McRae
Letterer:
Agnes Pinaha
Colorist:
Jahrome Youngker

Summary:
"Mace Ventura" is sent to capture our heroes.

Description:
An old lady decides Rita & Runt would be a fine addition to her collection of stuffed animals. When they refuse to come along, she hires Mace Ventura to capture them. He's a sadistic version of Jim Carrey's character in you-know-what movie, and applies several *VERY* mean-spirited means of capturing the duo before crashing an airplane on top of the old lady and ending their partnership.

Pages (out of 32): 8 pp.

Quote of the Story:
MACE: Okay, that does it! No more Mister Comics-Code-Approved Nice Guy! I'm gonna see those two offed and stuffed even if it means this book becomes a Vertigo title!

Review:
Eh…as Rita notes, it just ain't the same without the singing. The highlights of the R&R TV cartoons are usually Bernadette Peters' great singing and Frank Welker's superb Dustin Hoffman impression (both of which are obviously absent here), as well as the nice tunes the writers cook up. Without those, the cat & dog team is really not all that great…not to mention that I didn't see the purpose in turning Ace Ventura into a vindictive animal-hater…

Scott McRae
Letterer:
Bob Pinaha
Colorist:
Dave Tanguay
Cover:

But once there, they discover that the last one has been sold to the world-renowned singer Frank Pigeonatra. The try several schemes to pinch it, including dressing as tourists, "Nancy," a waiter, and finally the chef. They get the thing, but when they present it to the Godpigeon, find that he wanted it to give to his good friend—you guessed it—Frank Pigeonatra.

Quote of the Story:
[Pesto impersonates a waiter, trying to lift the dessert from Ol' Coo Eyes.]

FRANK: Hey, you--waiter!

PESTO: You talkin' to me? You talkin' to me?!

FRANK: Yeah, you. I need another cappucino (sic), you kooky kid.

PESTO: Kooky kid? Kooky kid? Whaddaya mean by that? Are you sayin' that I am a kooky kid? Do I look like a quirky baby goat? Is that what you're sayin'?

FRANK: Yeah.

PESTO: [In shock for a moment; then]: …okay.

Review:
A pretty amusing story. Some nice song parodies, some good routines. All in all, a nice comic debut for the boids. Goodfeathers fans should enjoy it.

Title: Minerva Mink in "Shopping Beauty"

Writer: Dana Kurtin
Penciller:
Neal Sternecky
Inker:
Scott McRae
Letterer:
Teresa Davidson
Colorist:
Jo Meugniot

Summary:
In a "Sleeping Beauty"-ish story, Minerva is forced to shop until she drops—or meets her Prince Charming.

Description:
We learn where Minerva got her beauty and intelligence (!!!)—a witch gave them to her, then put a curse on her, saying that she must shop until she finds her prince. So she heads to the mall and shops, getting the usual reaction from the males in the vicinity (including Yakko & Wakko, a group of mutts, the Artist Formerly Known as Prince, and Prince Charles), before meeting the hunk of her dreams—the cash register guy. She chases him across the mall, with the other men in hot pursuit of her.

Pages (out of 32): 6 pp.

Quote of the Story:
YAKKO: Look, I got Prince Albert in a Can!

WAKKO: Then don't you think you'd better let him out?

Review:
Um…not a really good story, not even to a dedicated Minerva fanboy…the writing is terrible (as you can probably tell from the quote), Sternecky does a *TERRIBLE* job on the mink, and while there's a good gag here and a nice wild take there, the story as a whole is hardly worth reading.
