Brain "fires" Pinky and duplicates himself to be his own partner, with unplanned results…

Description:
Brain decides that it's Pinky's fault he hasn't succeeded all these years, and so sends his friend off ("for the good of the world") and duplicates himself. However, after being labeled "2," the duplicate Brain isn't satisfied with his position, and runs off with the ray. He duplicates himself, and the same thing happens, eventually resulting in hundreds of Brains chasing each other around the city. The first Brain finds Pinky and when they return to the Lab, he gives the other Brains a second blast from the ray, resulting in them disappearing, but the ray also reflects onto Pinky…

Pages (out of 32): 12 pp.

Quote of the Story:
BRAIN: Pay attention, Pinky, and I shall explain in words of one syllable or less my new invention.

Review:
Blegh. Not a terrible story, per se, but the fact that Brain is *TOTALLY* out of character makes an already less-than-great story into a major-league flop. For one, Brain's treatment of Pinky in the beginning is absolutely sickening. Also, the other Brains are, as Brain himself puts it, "self-serving traitors." But they're all supposedly exact duplicates of "our" Brain, and he would *NEVER* be that much of a jerk. It gets a slightly better grade than it deserves thanks to Carzon's good artwork (although just "good," not "great" yet—while his work is certainly very promising, and better than any of the other artists on the series, it still needs a bit of work. The poses and expressions are still a bit stiff and he obviously isn't 100% comfortable with the characters yet, with the use of lots of standard model sheet poses, etc.).

Title: "Frankly Frankenstein"

Writer: Dave King
Penciller:
Cosme Quartieri
Inker:
Scott McRae
Letterer:
Bob Pinaha
Colorist:
Dave Tanguay

Summary:
Our favorite trio of 'toons stumble onto the castle of Dr. Frankansniff.

Description:
The Warners have mailed themselves in a crate to the set of Frankenstein, but realize that they're actually in Austria. They go to the castle of Dr. Frankansniff (resemblance to you-know-who) and deliver the package, but he then shoos them off. They return to bug him several times before accidentally bringing his monster to life—it's a big, green Plotz. They finally realize that they actually *ARE* on a very realistic filming set—not for a movie, but for a comic book.

Pages (out of 32): 10 pp.

Quote of the Story:
[The Warners have been bugging Frankansniff for a tip for their delivery.]

FRANKANSNIFF: Get out! Leave me alone!

YAKKO: A loan? We were gonna hit you for a tip!

DOT: Money…from us? He really is mad.

Review:
An overall pretty good story. Like most of King's efforts, it's got that overall "kiddie" feel to it, but there's also more than a trace of true wit and satire. More of Quartieri's by-the-book, but still pretty good, artwork.
