CN Upfront: Three "Billy & Mandy" Movies, More Specials & Crossovers Planned-UPDATED

by on February 16, 2007

Cartoon Network plans major crossover events and TV movies for its series in 2007, the network said today at its Upfront presentation. According to CN’s senior vice president of development and creative direction Michael Ouweleen, “We feel like we make some of the best animated half hour TV shows out there, but it’s just not enough anymore. Kids expect events.”

Invaded LogoFive network series–Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends, Ed, Edd & Eddy, My Gym Partner is a Monkey, Camp Lazlo and The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy–will participate in the “Cartoon Network Invaded” event in May. The mayhem will begin when Bloo of Foster’s Home sends a message into deep space; as a result, aliens will invade one of these shows every Friday in May. The stunt will climax with a World Alien Invasion marathon of these episodes on Memorial Day. The event will be supported with online games, and an alternate ending on CN Video.

The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy will get three events. Premiering at 7 p.m. March 30th following a three hour Billy & Mandy marathon is Billy & Mandy’s Big Boogey Adventure, in which the duo fight the boogeyman in “an epic tale of monster pirates, futuristic robots, evil artifacts, and snot.” In October the characters will join with the heroes of Kids Next Door for The Grim Adventures of the Kids Next Door, when the latter must rescue Billy when he gets stuck in his dad’s “lucky pants.” Billy & Mandy: Spider Queen will see the duo join with their enemies when Grim’s past comes back to haunt him.

The second season of the Class of 3000 will open in June with a “celebrity and music-filled” TV special featuring Andre “3000” Benjamin, coinciding with the release of the first season’s soundtrack.

Finally, the DreamWorks animated film Shrek will air on the network in “a huge movie event.” No airdate was provided.

Further yet to be named events are said to be in production.
