Claymation Pioneer Will Vinton Receives 2013 Italian Animation Life Achievement Award

Animation World Network reports that famed stop-motion animator Will Vinton has received the 2013 Italian Animation Life Achievement Award from the Italian Cultural Institute of Los Angeles and Cinema Without Borders. Vinton has long been known as the pioneer of “Claymation,” with the iconic stop-motion animated California Raisins ad campaign being one of his most famous creations. Among his numerous other achievements in the industry, Vinton also produced the TV series The PJs for the WB and Gary and Mike for UPN, as well as the stop-motion feature film The Adventures of Mark Twain. His short film “Closed Mondays” also won the 1974 Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film.

Prior winners of the award include Phil Roman and Phil Mendez.
