News reports are stating that government regulators in China have banned foreign cartoons on TV between 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM in an effort to protect China’s native animation studios. The ban has not been formally announced, but is supposed to be put into effect on September 1. The ban will affect all foreign-made cartoons, including the most popular ones from the United States and from Japan. Chinese newspapers have already criticized the ban as an ineffective way to achieve its stated goals.
