Cool Stuff: Summoner Geeks/Attacking the Darkness

Summoner was one of the launch titles released for the Playstation 2 in 2000. Though the game received favorable reviews, I did not like and never finished playing it. I do, however, have this game firmly embedded in my memory because of a brilliant little easter egg hidden in the credits. The team at Volition, […]

The season is currently set for another 26 episodes to follow the first 26 episodes of season 1. New episodes of Transformers: Prime are set to premiere on February 11, 2011. Check […]

"Dead Space Aftermath" Mostly Dead on Arrival

Like Dante’s Inferno, Dead Space Aftermath was animated as an anthology film, with different hand-drawn animation studios and directors handling each of the 4 sequences detailing the survivors’ experiences, with one over-arching framing device holding them all together. Individually, each of these chapters is quite well-done; as with Dante’s Inferno, I hesitate to call it […]

Cool Stuff: The Real Legend of Zelda 3

The Real Legend of Zelda is a series of parody shorts created by Jerry Padilla. The three shorts were created years apart and it’s fascinating to watch him evolve as an animator and director with each. The graphics in the third are noticeably better than the first two. The shots are well-framed and more complicated. […]

"Dante's Inferno" Should Be Condemned to the Circle of the Repetitive and Boring

I really do try to be as objective as possible walking into a new DVD for review, but when the trailer to Dante’s Inferno was released, I couldn’t help but think that it looked hilariously awful. The purist/cultural snob couldn’t even be that offended by the complete misappropriation of one of the great classics of […]

Cool Stuff: de Blob 2 - The Astronaut

It’s time for more cross-media video game fun! In The Astronaut, Blob visits the Graydian Employment Office to choose space as his career path. He immediately realizes his mistake as he’s attacked by mechanical arms and transported to a space station. He meets danger as he’s sent outside in a space suit with solar panels but […]

"Archer" Season Two Premiere at the Paley Center for Media

(L to R) George Coe, Chris Parnell, Aisha Tyler, Adam Reed, Judy Greer) As senators and representatives gathered in Washington D.C. to witness the President’s State of the Union Address, people gathered at the Paley Center for Media in Beverly Hills to witness a spectacle of a wholly different fashion in the season two premiere […]

"Archer" Season 2: Still Deranged, Demented, and Delightful

Normally, it’s not flattering to describe a show as offering “more of the same”; the phrase suggests it has fallen into a rut. But when you’re talking about a show like FX’s Archer, it means the show is following the dictum, “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.” After watching the first seven episodes of […]
