Cartoon Outkast: "Class of 3000" Misses the Grade

by Jameson November 3, 2006
I’ve never been overly comfortable with cartoons based on established media persona. Having celebrity personalities voicing fictional cartoon characters, fine. Celebrity personalities voicing themselves, spat into the middle of a fictitious universe in which they themselves play the central hero just seems rather indulgent. After all, it’s the fact that Batman or Bugs Bunny cannot […]

An article in The Jewish Week spotlights Rabbi Cary Friedman, author of Wisdom from the Batcave: How to Live a Super, Heroic Life, in which he discusses how Batman “instills in his audience some of Judaism’s most important moral values.” The book arose from his experiences in Jewish studies classes at Duke University and the […]

"Hello Kitty" Is Taking Over the World...Starting With Disney

by Dukeon October 25, 2006
When people think of Disney, they think of old childhood stories re-imagined into major motion pictures that the whole family can enjoy (the quality of said films will be saved for another time). When people think of Hello Kitty, they think of a mass-merchandised Japanese icon that’s so popular it even has its own store […]

"Batman Beyond Season Two": Back To The Future We Go!

by Stuon October 22, 2006
The gamble Kids WB! made with their Batman franchise paid off big time, with Batman Beyond becoming the country’s number one cartoon and delivering huge ratings and critical acclaim for the network in the first season. There were a few fanboy complaints, but lets not kid ourselves, there’s always a few complaining fanboys who whine […]

"Justice League Unlimited": The Balls Are Back!

by Stuon October 21, 2006
When Justice League Unlimited was originally announced, I remember being very suspicious. The original show often had difficulty juggling seven characters in 40-minute story – how did they hope to use 50 plus without someone getting the shaft? I admit some of the worrying was brought on from personal bias – in my opinion, a […]
