Review:

Fans who are familiar with the excellent laserdisc collection of Pink Panther cartoons will no doubt be disappointed that it was not reproduced for DVD. Instead we get a DVD version of the first tape in a series of new VHS Pink Panther collections. To add insult to injury, some of the cartoons in this collection are not even the classic 1960s cartoons, but are the inferior late 70s cartoons. Some also have an incredibly annoying laugh track. At least the first and best Pink Panther cartoon, the Academy Award-winning "The Pink Phink" is included, keeping this collection from being too bad. I only hope that eventually MGM will come to its senses and issue a definitive Pink Panther DVD with all of the best cartoons, instead of this lame collection of hits and misses.

The picture quality of these cartoons is good, but not great. But considering that some of these films are only 20 years old, the picture quality may disappoint you. It doesn't seem that any effort was made to clean up or restore these films. Nevertheless, the quality is still much better than VHS.

At the ridiculously short running time of 51 minutes, this DVD is certainly not worth the $25 retail price. I can only recommend it if you can find it at a heavily discounted price. But no matter how much you pay for it, you are bound to be disappointed by this disc.
