Synopsis: Bob and Linda finally get a chance to go somewhere sans the kids but as fate would have it, none of their regular babysitters are available, so it’s down to Uncle Teddy as the only option.
Details: Bob and Linda want to go to the burger convention but none of their regular babysitters seem to be available, so Uncle Teddy [Larry Murphy] is the only remaining option – and they decide to take him up on his offer to watch the kids while they are gone. None of the kids nor Uncle Teddy have any idea on what they would like to do so Uncle Teddy decides to fix the clog in the kitchen sink while he is there. Tina, who has a hankering for Jonas, the moped-driving delivery boy for nearby Reggie’s Deli, takes advantage of this lack of supervision by announcing that she will go down to Reggie’s Deli to pick up food for everyone.
Meanwhile, Bob and Linda arrive at the burger convention headquarters – which appears to be a Motel 6-style budget hotel – when Bob learns that via his message board moniker [“Burger Bob”] he has earned somewhat of an unpleasant reputation as a know-it-all.
Tina gets invited to a “gathering” [not a party] by Jonas and after returning with the sandwiches from the deli, Jonas weasels an invitation from Tina to go to the restaurant for the “gathering” with some of his friends while Uncle Teddy is still upstairs cleaning out the sink. Eventually, Uncle Teddy hears Jonas playing his melodica at the “gathering” and comes down to investigate. Upon finding Tina and three boys in the restaurant, Uncle Teddy promptly evicts Jonas and his friends and forbids Tina to leave the house. Tina, though, is afflicted with Jonas Fever, and must go see him, so she escapes from her window with a ladder to go meet Jonas and his friends at the cove by the lighthouse. While checking to see that everybody is asleep, Uncle Teddy discovers Tina’s escape and goes searching for her.
Back at the burger convention, things turn ugly when the fellow burger conventioneers shun and taunt Bob and Linda, until they go to the hotel Jacuzzi for some relaxation – only to have the burger conventioneers show up and taunt them a second time. Bob and Linda finally give up the Jacuzzi to the burger conventioneers but exact revenge by returning and emptying jugs of mayonnaise and relish into the water while they are sitting in it.
Finally, the lighthouse park ranger comes to visit the cove by the lighthouse and the boys scatter, leaving Tina to get caught by the lighthouse park ranger, placing her in “ranger danger” until Uncle Teddy arrives to sort things out and then tosses Jonas’ moped into the water when he returns to try and retrieve it – just in time to be seen by Bob and Linda as they are making their early return from the convention.
The Poop and Skinny: The “Teddy Brulee” consists of broken-up chocolate bars, pretzels and marshmallows, delicately singed with a blowtorch.
Board games laid out for Uncle Teddy’s babysitting gig include “Torpedo” [aka Battleship] and “Surgery Sam” [aka Operation].
