Actor Bob Hastings passed away on June 30, 2014, at the age of 89. Hastings was suffering from his third bout with pancreatic cancer in 15 years at the time of his passing. The actor was probably best known as the voice of Archie Andrews on the radio from the end of World War II to 1953, and as “yes man” Lt. Elroy Carpenter on McHale’s Navy on television from 1962 – 1966. In addition to his consistent work in live-action TV, Hastings was a regular presence as voiceover talent in animation starting in the 1960’s, with Hanna-Barbera’s Jeannie, Clue Club, CB Bears, and Challenge of the Superfriends. He provided the voice of Superboy in the Filmation Superman cartoons, and served as the voice of Commissioner Gordon in Batman the Animated Series and its many TV, feature film, and video game spinoffs.
