Inspired by a cheesy movie, Mordecai and Rigby decide that the best way to pick up phone numbers from women is to go cruisin' around town in a sweet ride. Margaret and Eileen are offended at the guys' chauvinistic remarks and incredulously make a wager: if Mordecai and Rigby can't pick up two numbers by the end of the day, the girls get treated to an expensive dinner. As the day goes on and the situation gets desperate, the guys decide to borrow Pops' "special" ride.
One thing I've been really enjoying about Regular Show's recent episodes is how side characters have been developed and recontextualized in new ways. Skips has gone from a mysterious sage to a more flawed, defined character, Benson has developed from a mean boss to a stern guardian for Mordecai and Rigby, and the two female characters on the show, Margaret and Eileen, have become more than just love interests to the guys. It's fun to see all four of them interacting as friends (or at least, non-romantic acquaintances) this week.
The actual cruisin' scenes themselves are full of typical Regular Show humor, with the comedy stemming from regular people putting themselves into awkward positions, in between copious amounts of 80's montages. In fact, there were probably too many montages: the climactic Chitty Chitty Bang Bang-esque chase scene near the end definitely could have been longer. And as usual, the episode ends in a really clever, quick, and hilarious way. In a sense, "Cruisin'" feels like a microcosm of what makes an episode of the show tick, while adding new dimensions to previously one-dimensional relationships between characters.
