A seemingly benign lunch with Wildberry Princess turns deadly when Jake finds an unwanted guest in one of her famous meat pies. The miniature assassin-in-training Me-Mow decides to salvage her mission to kill Wildberry Princess by hiding inside Jake's nose and giving him an ultimatum: assassinate the princess or die from a poison injection.

After a few episodes focused on building atmosphere and creating an unsettling experience, it's nice to see Adventure Timehave an episode that returns to the simpler, more comedic feel of seasons past, except with a pinch of season three's darker edge (Wildberry Princesses' disturbing obsession with meat and dead animals being one particularly subtle example of that). "Jake vs. Me-Mow" is also pretty interesting in that it gets a surprising amount of mileage from a single piece of fan art drawn by a young viewer. The character design and name of Me-Mow is virtually the only thing taken from the drawing, but it's still a sweet gesture from the Adventure Time crew. More famous for her role as Anais on The Amazing World of Gumball, Kyla Rae Kowalewski has a guest spot on the episode as Me-Mow, and uses a similarly cute voice to make the episode even sweeter.

Cuteness aside, making Me-Mow an actual threat really works in this episode's favor, mainly because she corners the cast into a tight situation that only gets solved through a typical clever and unpredictable Adventure Time solution. The only main issue I had with the story is that it felt like it relied on Finn being uncharacteristically untrusting of Jake at times to work, such as the lullaby scene where Jake is trying to tell Finn the truth as Me-Mow sleeps to another pleasant Rebecca Sugar-penned song. Regardless of any out-of-character moments, "Jake vs. Me-Mow" is a classic episode of Adventure Time that works wonders with a literally paper-thin premise.
