Cool Stuff: Your Choice!

This short is a creation of Japanese director Koji Yamamura, an independent filmmaker who most notably received an Oscar nomination for his animated short Mt. Head in 2003. As the message at the beginning announces, the inspiration for the film came from an unusual source; it was "...the result of a series of children's animation workshops conducted in the United States and Japan."

The film is purported to be about an alligator named Raoul choosing between visiting a barber or a dentist and an armadillo named Madillo deciding whether or not to carry an umbrella. Suffice to say that it's most interesting for its lofty goal of adapting the creations of young imaginations into something of a unified narrative. People liked what they saw; Your Choice! won first prize for best animated short film at the Chicago International Children's Film Festival in 1999.
