Billboard on “Archer” Going Country in Season 5

by on March 19, 2014

Billboard has looked behind the scenes at a recent musical turn in FX’s Archer, whose season 5 premiere upended the series status quo and ended up making a country music star out of Cheryl Tunt, the fabulously wealthy and slightly insane assistant to the agents of ISIS. Archer Executive Producer Matt Thompson discusses the reasons for the radical change in season 5, how that led to Cheryl turning into “Cherlene,” and how the idea grew from there to a full-fledged digital-only release of music used and inspired by the show. Also quoted is Kevin Kinney (of the band Drivin N Cryin), who assisted in producing the songs for the show and the album and cast Jessy Lynn Martens as the singing stand-in for Cheryl’s voice actor Judy Greer.
